Super User Darren. Posted October 12, 2016 Super User Posted October 12, 2016 Spent past 4 days at Lake Vermillion. One good day SMB fishing doing the drop-shot thing. Caught 3 off a dock, and 6 more anchored near a hazard buoy in a windy portion of the lake. None much over 2 pounds, but all between 1 and 2. Didn't take many pix given they weren't "big-uns" but doggonit, I'm thrilled to get some smallie action because I don't get any down here in SE Virginia!! Pix are from the dock where I was staying. Awesome fight(s) on a BPS Light action Micro Lite travel rod, 5'6", which was more like a ML in action, paired with my new Stradic FK 1000, 15# PPSS8 with a 6# Gamma Edge fluoro. #2 Gamakatsu Split/Drop hook and Yammy shad-shape worms. 1 Quote
Super User Scott F Posted October 12, 2016 Super User Posted October 12, 2016 I fished Vermilion for many years but haven't been there lately. What part of the lake were you staying on? I used to stay at the Shamrock Marina, located between Moccasin Point and Oak Narrows. 1 Quote

My employer lives on the North side of the lake, near Black Bay, so I fished that area, primarily. The myriad of islands -- with homes on them -- are fascinating. Truly a beautiful place! Quote
Super User FryDog62 Posted November 9, 2016 Super User Posted November 9, 2016 There are some good SMB in Vermilion but seems to be a "streaky" lake (for all species). Sometimes the Vermilion river is an overlooked option for smallies (big pike too) but IMO is more consistent than the lake itself (and gets far less pressure). If you have a kayak, that might be something to try next time you're there... 1 Quote
