What rod is your go to for jerkbaits

I've been experimenting with two: a Duckett Terex 6'6" M and a White Ice 7'1" MH. What do you all use, and why that particular rod?

I use a 7' medium fast st. Croix triumph, because it's the closest thing I've got to a jerkbait rod.  It works fine, but I would prefer something shorter in length and with a much shorter handle, plus a little faster tip would be nice to.

Mine are custom of course, but they are med or mh with a fast but soft action. These are sometimes referred to as popping blanks.

Orochi XX Flatside Special.  It is such a joy for jerks and cranks, can't say enough nice things about it.

 

For me it's a combination of all factors.  It's light weight, super comfy handle for long twitching sessions, the super sensitive blank and the awesome parabolic action once it hooks up...  Not exactly hard on the eyes either

Two rods for me.

Shimano Cumulus 6"10 MH which fishes like a true medium and the rod weighs 3 ounces which means much less fatigue.

Custom MHX 842 Spinjig that was but trimmed to 6"8.

Both of these rods are ideal as I never through anything bigger than 5/8 oz and both can handle down to 1/4 oz. They also aren't too long, to the point that you are slapping the water or boats edge but not so short that you may feel like you are loosing casting distance.

I purchased an Abu Garcia Ike series jerkbait rod. He designed it to be like a typical 6'6" or 6'9" but made it with a bit of a shorter split grip but section. It measures 6'4" so it does not hit your arm as you set up the typical jerking motion.  The Ike rods in general are a lot nicer than I expected.

I use a Team Diawa 6'6" MH. It's super light rod with a soft action and fast tip. These rods are super sleepers.. it also does great with worms, spinner baits, lipless and square bill cranks. A great rod!

If you can find one I highly recommend you to buy it.

I also have a 6' MH that's fantastic for using jigs in tight areas. The rod has serious hook setting power.

Both cast perfectly.. I can't say enough good about them.

6' 2" M/XF Avid for when I really want to make a bait cut.

6' 8" M/F Ethos Micro for my regular jerkbait rod

I just added a 6' 3" M/MF Fenwick Elite Tech smallmouth bass rod that I'm excited to try. I think it's going to be a good one during the winter when I want a little less action on the bait.

A 6'6" - 6'9"M is what I like to use. Short handle for sure.

I use my 2 6'6" M/F Legend Xtreme's. They allow me to impart the action I want in the bait. Any of the moderate actions I've used, you really have to crank on them to get the bait to work because there's so much flex. I don't find myself loosing fish with the fast action either because I keep my drag loose, and because in that cold water the fish don't pull nearly as hard or put up as much of a fight. They're pretty much the perfect rod for my jerkbait use.

I use spinning gear for throwing jerk baits. Currently I use a 6'3" Shimano (forget the model name - it is a mid-range one)  Medium action with an extra fast tip.   I'll throw mostly pointers on 14 lb Fireline or 10 lb nanofil.  I think that throwing the jerk baits is a cover the water thing and the extra distance that I get with the spinning gear helps.   It is a little easier to throw into the wind or into cross winds with the spinning gear.    I'd  use a longer rod for more distance except I'd be smacking it on the side of the boat a lot more often.

  St. Croix Rage 6'8 medium fast works good for me.  For small jerkbaits I also use a spinning rod, a 6'6 medium ex fast tip

St. Croix Avid AVC66MF which has a soft tip.

Was thinking of trying new 691 tatula feider came out with.

But i have been using dobyns fury 7' mh cranking rod to good success.  Lose a few fish but thats jerking for ya.

I use a Dobyn's Champion 685cb for jerkbaits, wish I got a 684cb. Still on the fence about the moderate fast action though.

I have an IMX 6'8" Medium Fast (802C). It's a "topwater" rod but imo it works great for jerkbaits as well.

I honestly haven't been able to use it much recently so I can't give a proper review, but I like the length, handle, and action so far...

That is a sweet rod for jerk baits!  Really like how it loads up on fish.

i use a phenix maxim 610 ml with a curado 70 spooled with 10lb sniper. a little light action but works just fine for me

Megabass Orochi XX Jerkbait Special with Daiwa PX Type R 12lb Sunline Sniper. Amazing setup. I am a jerkbait junkie and i have tried many rods, finally bit on this one after thinking about it many times and it does not disappoint. Best rod i have found by far for jerkbaits.

Same as my topwater plug rod - a 6'2" medium power, XXfast rod with a short rear grip.  I've used numerous reels with different IPTs.  What matters most is comfort.  P-Line CXX 10# for line.
