Fountainhead

Anyone fish Fountainhead lately?  I'm gonna head there this weekend and rent a jon boat.  Curious how the fishing is now that the temps have cooled off.  Thanks!

That wasn't very helpful...sorry, I was busy....and frustrated.

Was one of those days when Murphy was in charge.  Left ramp with two batteries and two trolling motors before noon in pretty strong winds.  Got up lake about half way to Ryan's Dam when one motor died and the other started lagging bad.  I'd been having issues with both batteries, but they'd been taking a charge, so I didn't replace them yet.  Drift/trolled/limped back in to Fountainhead - barely.  Wife was praying, actually - if the wind hadn't died for about 20 minutes when we got straight out from the ramp, we'd have never made it in -- no oars in our boat, either.

Once in, I started packing up, but the wife talked me into renting a battery and going back out.  Part II was better boating experience, but fishing still not productive.  I stayed with spinnerbait probably two long, but was mixing it up with jigs, flipping plastics, chatterbaits, trig worms and cranks.  Lost spinnerbaits, chatterbait, plastics, tungsten....I never got hung up so much as I did yesterday.  Probably around 5PM, started to see surface activity, got a few hits and finally boated a 3# on a chatterbait with a GYCB Swim Senko trailer.  Only fish all day.  Still, I'm glad we went out, but I have no clue what I might have done different to boat fish.  I can't say that even marked anything I thought was bass on the fish finder more than 2-3 times.

Ugh! Sorry Choporoz, glad you made it back ok. 

Appreciate the help as always.  Will let you know how we fare. Weather looks decent, but perhaps a little chilly at dawn.  Planning to start with some search baits (spooks, chatter, and spinner), then prob work our way down to jigs and the ol' reliable senko.

Man....I didn't even mention the grand finale....guess I didn't actually make it back 'OK'....no room to beach on the rocks, so we pulled the boat up on the rubber mats.  I had my water shoes on and didn't even exercise any care....both feet went out from under me while unloading and my back and neck are pretty hosed up.  Not enough for a Dr. visit, but still quite uncomfortable....just one of those days.

Somewhat depressingly comforting that nobody at the launch claimed much success that day either.  Senkos and jigs were only reported lures working for anyone else, and not great with those, either.  I'll blame the cold front that followed the Matthew rain.  This weekend will be awesome....GL!

Was out right before the outskirts of Matthew came through...I usually love fishing before a front/storm during summer months, but it may have been too much this time of year and the fish seemed to be pretty finicky.  Sounds like Chop didn't get much of a read with high winds and equipment failure, but i'd hope the fall bite is back to normal by now or at least by this coming weekend.  I caught one 2# fish on a crankbait in probably 15 ft of water off a secondary point (I think pretty close to where a couple creek channels intersect) last friday and that was the only time i got bit all day.  threw a lot of different things with no luck.  saw a few schools of nervous shad getting back in there shallow mid-afternoon.  Just couldn't figure out how to get the green fish underneath them to bite.  I would say before last friday I've had some of my most productive days out there...so hoping the storm just put them in a funk and all is back to normal by now.  not sure that's helpful but all i got!

I fished last Saturday out of Fountainhead in the rain and caught a bunch of 2lbers. A bandit 300 in 12-18' over wood was the main producer but also caught some pitching soft plastics to shallow wood as long as there is 8'+ of water nearby. I hope to get out next Saturday and find them shallower.

 

Also I keep seeing videos and hearing reports that people are catching fish on chatterbaits on the Rez but I have been unable to catch anything with them there. I do well with them on the River in grass but I must be doing something wrong. I fish them shallow, deep, in between, fast, slow etc. Nothing.

We fished from ~7:30a - 12:30p.  Got nothing!  It was a sunny, clear day, which can make it tough.  But I'm still just stunned that there was nothing at all.  oh well, still had a good time ;-)
