Anyone Night Fish for Bass?

I've given it a few tries this summer but I think I'm going to head out tonight.  I love love love fishing craws so I think that may play well into my strength.

What gear do you guys like fishing with at night?

I'm taking 12" Manns worms, misc rattling jigs, a bunch of dark colored craws and beavers, black chatterbait, black buzzbait and some colorado bladed spinners.

Well just got back.  I was fishing off a dock in a cove and fish were blowing up everywhere, nonstop, and i didnt get a single bite!!

Tried buzzbait, frog, spook, spinners, jigs with multiple different trailers, chatterbaits and senkos and not crap!

 

That was probably the mosf frustrating 2 hours of my life haha.

Got to love those ones where you never hear it hit water. That moment you realize it should have landed like 10 seconds ago.

It's creepy and lonely. I can't see the alligators unless my flashlight hits their eyes. Then when it does its even spookier. Bull frogs and gators are croaking loudly. Sometimes I'm not sure which is which. And my god all the other bugs and tree frogs are so loud. Maybe that's what psychosis is like. Oh, and I'm afraid to lip a fish in case a huge black stealthy gator is after him -- coming up from under the boat -- and grabs him right when I do. Then he'd eat my hand. Off at the wrist. Ragged and crushed bone. Arteries squirt so far into the night. And also, you can't see your stuff well. It's hard to tie knots in the moonlight. You think the line is going through the hook eye. But it never is. I always lose my hat (better than my hand). Most the bites I get are from mosquitoes and gnats. Then if I survived the night I still gotta get up early the next day, and I'm exhausted all day and I make it up by eating way too much.

@00 mod summed it up well recently, it was something like "How to night fish 101: Make a cast, if you hear a splash, fish it, if not, cuss like a sailor." I love night fishing and can attest to that being how it goes a lot of nights.

Night fishing is much more comfortable during the summer time, temperature is much nicer and way fewer people. It's more of a big fish venture for me. True, I tend to catch more fish at night when it's hot, but the main reason I'm out there is looking for those big ones that go bump in the night. Jigs and bladed jigs are 90% of what I fish at night. I'll also fish a spinnerbait or big worm on occasion. I don't fish trebles at night, too dangerous for me. I also don't like topwater at night, because I don't like trying to dodge a bait I can't see after a missed strike. Keeping it simple after dark reduces clutter and improves my productivity most nights.

I go in the heat  of the summer . My three biggest fish caught the past two years came on full moon nights  fishing the same structure as I do during the  day. Two came on crankbaits one on a T-rigged worm .

Night fishing can be as hard as any other time.  You cant just expect to go out and slay monster bass.  Weather, light conditions,water temp and structure/cover play a huge role.

 

Darkness hides some of the flaws in presentation and casting...if you can improve those in the daylight (accurate and silent entry into water) you will catch as many big fish in daylight

I've seen some pretty good outdoorsmen get confused, disoriented, & lost at night.

Not for everyone is for sure. I just cannot get in any sort of rhythm at night.

These fellas move into this particular cove about 8:30 every night and stay until around 11:00.

I'll be catfishing with lights on and the baitfish are drawn to the lights and white bass will be hitting them . You  know youre in a good spot when that happens . Theres always catfish down there .

Now I know where they are I think I'll start targeting them.  They're so much fun to catch.  There is a lake about 15 min from me that has trophy size stripers, monster hybrids and florida strain bass.  Right now I'm land locked but I'll have a Kayak next spring.  I can only imagine how much fun it is fight 10lb + stripers in a kayak.

I use to night fish all year long. Probably my top 10 PBs were caught at night. And a good portion at night in the winter. Well, not sure most people would call SoCAL winters winter. Don't really fish at night now as I pretty much only fish out of my boat and all lakes around here close at sunset. My big fish count has gone way down as a result. I've caught fish on just about everything at night but most would be on Texas rig and traps.

I plan to do night fishing for bass next year once I move to my new lake where I can boating at night. Before I did quite a few night fishing but only for catfish never thought of bass fishing, stupid me?.
