My number one choice for Spring and Fall fishing for Smallmouth Bass are the X-RAP, XR-10. 4", Dives to 4' to 6', 7/16oz. To get the most out of the X-Rap Slashbait action, use your rod to give the lure more action. The X-Rap responds well to twitches, snaps and jerks – just vary the length and speed of your rod movement to create different actions from sweeps to aggressive darting.

When fish are extremely active, use the hard “snap” retrieve to really excite them; with your rod tip down, use a short snap-snap-pause retrieve to get the X-Rap to track in a very narrow manner. When fish are suspended over deep water, or to trigger shallow fish; use the “sweep” retrieve. With the rod tip up, use a long sweep-sweep-pause retrieve for a wider tracking action.

Great choice for your #1, mine is a tube. More specifically it's an internally weighted tube rigged weedless.  I can present it anywhere in the water column with any number of different actions, plus I can go with a vertical or horizontal presentation.  I guarantee both yours and mine will be tied on one of the five rods on my deck for the remainder of the season here.

I know that the jury is out on if "Fish Attractant" really works. I have been using fish attractant for 20+ years. All that I have to say is that it has never hurt my fishing, in fact I feel that it has improved my catch rate. My best luck has been on KVD 1.0 but hoping to try zoom tiny flukes on a drop shot, sounds like it would work..

Tried drop shotting a zoom tiny fluke and it worked great. Not just for smallies but largemouths killed it too.

Great SMB lures ~

 SMB are suicidal during the spawn - so during that period a spark plug is OK.

What's getting it done during pre-spawn, the dog days of summer and the fall transition ?

Most of my smallmouth fishing is summer wading. Four lures stand out:

1.  Wackey rigged 4" senko type worm

2.  Zoom Super Fluke Jr. on Gammy 1/16 oz.  jighead

3.  Ned rig 

4.  Small buzzbait (just for fun)
