Drunkentigerrr Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 Hi BASSRESOURCE Members, I am able to get my hands on one of the two reels listed below... Shimano JDM 15 Aldebaran BFS XG Limited Japan model 2015 Shimano JDM 15 Aldebaran Japan model 2015 What would you pick? Thanks Drunkentigerrr Quote
bigfruits Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 what are you throwing? i assume the BFS has a shallower spool? i have the non BFS model but ive only used it for pitching 1/4oz jigs on a BCR803c and i love it. the JDM 16 Aldebaran BFS is the same price if buying new and has an XG model. 1 Quote
timsford Posted October 7, 2016 Posted October 7, 2016 It depends on what you want to use the reel for and also what rid you plan on putting it on. The regular aldebaran is an excellent all around reel that can handle a wide range of lure weights. The bfs is for lightweight finesse lures with an appropriate rod rated down to at least 1/16 or so. If you want an all around combo, get the regular aldebaran and mount it on a medium or medium hea y rod and you will have a combo that can handle lots of lures. If you want something to throw small finesse baits for bass, panfish, and trout, get the bfs 3 Quote
Drunkentigerrr Posted October 7, 2016 Author Posted October 7, 2016 Thanks for the reply and hospitality guys! I actually have a gift card on amazon from work for $600 CAD. I fish usually the Kawartha Lakes in Eastern Ontario Canada. I recently picked up a brand new G loomis NRX 853c JWR (1st Gen) for $540CAD and wanted to pair it up with one of the two reels for pitching t-rigs and jigs. It is quite a hard pick since I can't find much information on BFS technology vs SVS, hence this post. Maybe the pricing will help... SHIMANO ALDEBARAN BFS XG LEFT HAND Baitcasting Reel [2015 LIMITED Model] CDN$ 558.75 Shimano Reel Baitcast Aldebaran 51 HG Left Hand (0077) by Shimano CDN$ 416.32 I am leaning toward the normal aldebaran so far. Thanks Drunkentigerrr Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted October 7, 2016 Super User Posted October 7, 2016 normal aldebaran on the nrx 853c would make a sweet combo! that reel will be capable of throwing everything that the rod can handle. congrats on 2 nice items you'll soon have! 2 Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted October 7, 2016 Super User Posted October 7, 2016 if i were you i'd go with the regular Alderbaran as the other reel is for finesse & light baits as the 853 rod is NOT a finesse rod , with the regular Alderbaran you can use it as an all around reel with good line capacity. 1 Quote
Drunkentigerrr Posted November 8, 2016 Author Posted November 8, 2016 Thanks all for the input. So I ordered the normal Aldebaran couple weeks ago and the Amazon store sent the wrong one 6.4:1. Sigh... soo nice but so much hassle. Quote
