I wonder how Gander Mountain is doing? We have one in Tampa and the fishing section is smaller than the smallest Dicks Sporting Goods. We have several Dicks that carry an awesome selection of tackle, With Academy, BPS, all the liquidators and manufactures, I don't know how they do well here in Florida at least. I guess Hunting is bigger than I realize.....

Meh, I prefer Tackle Warehouse to both of them anyway. Bigger selection, better prices, free shipping, and NO SALES TAX. Done and done

I prefer being able to go in and actually see the rod, reel and tackle I'm buying...easier to make sure it's actually what I want when I can hold it in my hands to see how it feels/looks...hard to do that online :punch:

couple of things that are interesting to me.  One is the Cabelas is a publicly held company while Bass Pro is not.  The second is that Capital One is an arm of the deal and is going to be taking over Cabelas credit card which is currently being help by a local Nebraska bank.  That Bank could be severely impacted or it could be a ply for Capital One to buy out that bank and expand it's footprint to the midwest which is a place that it currently doesn't have a foothold.

As far as the products and the stores, I don't really care either way.  They opened a Cabelas near me about 3 months ago and i have yet to step foot in the store.  The local Bass Pro i go more to kill tie than anything.  Pretty much anything i need I go about a mile from my house to the local tackle shop and buy whatever i need.

The latest headline:

Bass Pro Shop's $5.5 Billion Deal

for Cabela's Inc Is Falling Apart

A regulatory morass could sink the tie-up between the sporting goods giants.

I personally hate that the cabelas are popping up everywhere. There are 3 around me here where I live in ohio. And they all are nowhere near the one I love in Dundee Michigan. It's like they just slap a building up and throw the cabelas name on it. I think they should have built a huge one instead of having 3 In an hour's radius.

Their (fishing ) selection was poor too. I went in there looking for three things.. rage tail, screw in cone sinkers for t rig, and rapala xrap shad. Which they had none of.

I'll just stick to ordering off line and going to that one in Dundee when I make it back to Michigan.

We have 1 in Mass.It sucks pretty bad.I havent been to the one in Hartford CT yet.
