Jax Hubble Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 Doing a independent study for a college writing class, just would like some opinions on lures for fall fishing. Do you stick to certain brands or do they not matter? What Colors do you tend to throw more of when the water temp drops in the fall? Do you still throw top waters in the morning like you would in the summer? Also include your Name please and thank you.
j bab Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Uh oh, prepare for some ruffled feathers I suppose I'll participate. I stick with brands that I've had luck with in the past, or whatever reputable brand is on sale. I don't really change colors that much throughout the year, I just try em all. Yes. My name is Jordan. 1
jr231 Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 I'll throw top waters all day if Its what's working . Lol Baitfish imitators. Shad raps especially the jointed version. Flukes, and for some reason, T rigged craws. My favorite though for years has been a bomber model A in chartreuse blush 1

Super User Darren. Posted October 3, 2016 Super User Posted October 3, 2016 Welcome aboard, Jax! I responded to your first post which was subsequently deleted...so I'll re-respond here. 1) I do stick with certain brands of soft plastics as some perform better than others in my experience. 2) I throw similar colors all year. 3) I don't get out early much, so don't throw tops much....

And if you don't mind me asking, here are few questions for you : Which establishment of Higher Education are you currently attending ? What's your Major & Minor (if there is any) courses of study ? Do you prefer Morning or Afternoon Classes or does it not matter ? Would you ever consider taking classes on line ? A-Jay 3

I use whatever type of lure is necessary to catch fish. 2.I use whatever lure color is necessary to catch fish. 3.You can always catch a bass on a well presented topwater lure. 1
OCdockskipper Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Uh oh, Jax Hubble has gotten A-Jay riled up. That can't be good. I for one imagine A-Jay as bass fishing's version of Bruce Banner, a mild mannered gentleman looking out for the best interests of others...until you get him mad. Jax, you won't like him when he is mad. That aside, I'll answer your questions: 1) I only use lures manufactured by MonkHawg, an LLC based out of Tibet who specializes in hand carved balsa baits. 2) Once water temperatures drop, I prefer purple/pink laminate, for it best represents the Southern Roving Damselfly found on my home lake. 3) Yes, i still throw topwaters, but in the fall, I add a 1 ounce punching bait to the rear treble hook. This give the appearance that the lure is drowning, something bass who watch old Baywatch reruns find irresistible. 4) My name is Stewart Pidasso, but I go by Stu. 1

OK - Thanks And here's my answers to your questions; Do you stick to certain brands or do they not matter? I stick to Quality Brands but even then I often upgrade the hardware. What Colors do you tend to throw more of when the water temp drops in the fall? The cooler the water the Simpler my lure color patterns become. Eventually ending up with SIlver, Gold or White baits. Do you still throw top waters in the morning like you would in the summer? The very early morning / Day break Fall bite for me all but disappears once the water temps dip below 55 degrees and as the water continues to cool the bite is best during the warmest parts of the day. Jax Hubble Posted October 3, 2016 Author Posted October 3, 2016 Thank you everyone for your opinions I really do appreciate it. Here are my answers. For my lures I usually stick to well know brands such as Zoom for their fluke, Gary Yammamoto's Senko, strike king for rage tails, and Boo-Ya for hollow frogs and spinner baits, and for jigs i just use whatever. For color I find that I use the same color throughout the seasons only changing with different water clarity. I tend to still have luck with top waters along pads but not along weed lines like in the summer.
Airman4754 Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 I'd bet all of these independent studies threads are folks from a small company trying to do R&D.
