Jerk/Twitch bait

Can anyone recommend a hard plastic jerk/twitch bait that stays in the 1-2 ft zone? I fish a lot of shallow water with weeds on the bottom and would like to stay out of the weeds. Thanks for any advice

If you're going to keep it moving, I would think any floating minnow would do the job -- rapala, rebel, bomber, smithwick, et al.  If you want a suspender, the smithwick suspending rogue always seems to stay shallower than I want it to. But I'm terrible at jerkbaits.

Rapala xrap shallow shad.  Says 3-5 but you can keep it under 3 for sure. The action and profile is killer. Also suspends. One of my favorites.

If you are looking for a suspending jerkbait to fish in shallow water then I would find the cheapest option(s) possible. You won't be ripping your hair out when you get snagged. Luck-e-Strike STXs, the KVDs, Baker JLDs, twitchin sticks.. I like trick darters and squad minnows but can't afford to fish them shallow.

The Lucky Craft Spazz is one I use for trout in small rivers because it runs shallow. Not sure exactly how shallow, but it's shallower than a pointer or slender pointer.

Smithwick rogue floaters come in a regular and shallow version. The shallow version has a max depth of 2 ft. You can also heat the bill with a lighter on lots of baits and bend it down a little to make it run shallow. We do it in my neck of the woods with red fins and big long a jerkbaits to turn them into super shallow runners to wake on top for stripers and big bass

 Although the manns stretch 1- has the "summertime" wide wobble, its been my over thick weeds favorite, as its rattles are loud enough to pull fish from far away, and it does stay very shallow.  I like the baby sized stretch model, as it works the same as the full sized model, with 1 less treble.

  Does anyone know if any of the above mentioned lures have a tighter wobble,..say,... for fall? when the weeds are as tall as they get and the waters cooled down? The baby stretch 1- works in fall, but a tighter wobble, will draw more hits as winter closes in (IMHO)

I use this tactic a lot and I have a few options for you. If floating baits will work for you the Smithwick Rogue is killer when the fish are aggressive, the sound will get fish to chase and strike. Another that I just began trying with good results is the Bagley Minnow B, it is very similar to the Rogue in sound with a wider kick than the Rogue but the Rogue is still king due to the roll. If you need a silent approach, the number one bait for me is the Bagley Bang-O-Lure, it floats up super fast because it is balsa so it allows you to work it really fast without it hitting any deeper than 1.5'. The final one is the Yo-Zuri 3DB Minnow, this isn't as loud as the others and offers a smaller profile with a tighter action, it is the finesse option for twitch baits. For suspending baits the Lucky Craft Flash Minnow 110 has been great as well as the Yo-Zuri 3DB jerkbait which is similar to the minnow except it suspends, and I can't give you any more suspending because those are my only shallow suspending baits I use as I prefer floating in warm water and when it turns colder I go with deeper suspending baits.

 

EDIT: If you buy the Rogues you need to be careful as they make a medium diving as well as a shallow diving model and the package isn't helpful. If you buy them from TW or another place you can find the model you'll need which is 0' - 2', if you buy in a store, look at the sticker on the back, you'll want ARB or RB and the number will depend on color but it will always begin with 12 as the series is 1200 so one color might be 1236 and another may be 1242 but it has to be ARB or RB as that designates the shallow 4.5" version, the ARA is the smaller 3" version.
