Medium to Large Swimbaits in Georgia

Hey guys I'm new to the forum and I figured a good way to start off would be by creating a new Topic. Im not sure if this topic has already been created because I'm still getting used to the site but here it is: Medium to Large Swimbaits in Georgia. Has anyone had any luck with them? If so where and what kind? Im just now getting into bigger swim bait fishing so any tips or help are more than welcome. I recently purchased an 801MHFB swimbait rod that is rated 1-6oz and paired it with a Shimano Cardiff 301A. In addition, I purchased a Jackall Gantarel (RT Bluegill color), a Huddleston Top Hook Bluegill (Bluegill Color), and a Huddleston 6" trout (Baby Bass color). Like I said I've just gotten into the swimbait game so all help, tips, and advice are welcome.

Most new swimbait anglers fish too fast swimmers aren't crankbaits.

Don't recognize the rod brand by the numbers, 8' MH swimbait rod rate 1-6 could handle lures up to 4 oz but may be marginal for 8" rof12 Hudds, however you didn't mention using them and believe you should consider 7" & 8" swimbaits. Not a fan of the 6" Hudds, prefer the 68's.

What line do you plan to use? Sunline Deifer Armillo Nyon 25 lb. 165 yard fills your 300 series reel.

I would put away your other tackle and dedicate a few days learning to cast and retreive the largest swimbait you have. Start by casting around major points all around the lake you fish and watch for interested bass. Remember where those bass are located, which direction they came from to look at the lure. Go back every 2 hours and give those bass a second look.

Slow down and keep your consentration and be alert.

Mike Bucca is the self proclaimed king, but there used to be a guy on here named Randall Kirkpatrick that's the real king of swimbaits in GA.  Randall fished a lot of the reservoirs around north and middle GA and caught some monster trophy bass.  He's the real deal Hawg Whisperer!

OP let us know where exactly in GA you are and that might help dial you in a bit.  The lakes are quite a bit different from one end of the state to the other so you may get some varying information.

Unfortunately Randall's baits are unicorns in the swimbait world, whereas the Bullshad and Bullgill are easily purchased, and are proven fish catchers (with or without electro shocking.?). 

OP, Welcome. As for big swimbaits in GA, listen to Tom, he knows what he is talking about. You have a good start, don't get frustrated, just keep grinding. My only suggestion is that you lack a topwater, add an MS Slammer or Lunker Punker.

Thanks for all the help! The line I am using is 25lb seagaur AbrazX Fluorocarbon and the rod is a Daiwa DX Swimbait Casting Rod 8' Med Hvy. I didn't wanna spend too much money to begin with until I decided I was going to commit to big swimbaits. Looking back on it now and all the information I've learned since I've gotten the rod, I've realized go big or go home and don't mess with too many of the 6"ers and smaller haha. If you guys have any recommendations as to what rod would be perfect for the 8" hudds and similar baits let me know, I've been looking at the G. Loomis IMX Swimbait Rod 7'11" Heavy 956C SWB and the Huddleston Deluxe Hudd Rod 8' Extra Heavy. Also I'm about 30mins from west point but I don't mind driving, from what I hear Allatoona sounds like a good swimbait lake. Thanks again for all the help, all suggestions are welcome!

Contact Carl at KeepinItReelFishing(Youtube), I believe he has a Hudd rod new, for sale at a considerable discount. He's in North Jersey. Nothing wrong with your setup and baits though, 6" baits are a fine place to start.
