Hey fellow fisherman! My name is Donald, and I have been fishing since I was about three (I'm 21 now).  I was a sophmore at Colorado State University this past spring semester, but then my appendix ruptured, which also resulted in a liver abscess, and had to medically withdraw from college due to the extensive recovery time.  I decided to go to Germany with my dad (Air Force Lieutenant Colonel, soon to be Colonel) because it would be a great opportunity to go to Europe (and there are some awesome fish here!) before I enlist in the Air Force as either a Loadmaster or a Joint Terminal Attack Controller.

I first started fishing with my grandpa, who is a very serious tournament fisher, when I was about two.  But at the time I had epilepsy, so I was hospitalized a lot.  But whenever I was at home, I always wanted to fish with grandpa.  I continued to fish until my 21st birthday until I got my own fishing gear, and that was when I really started to get into the specifics and details about fishing.  I caught lots of trout, some bass (I hold a lake record for largemouth at 4.4 lbs haha) and some pike.  Just before I moved to Europe, I visited my grandparents in Tennessee, where I caught a 37 inch lake trout, a 20lb and a 40lb striped bass, and a 8lb smallmouth.  Needless to say that was pretty awesome, and I have been anxious about fishing here in Germany! I am set to go this week!

Great having you with us and thank you for your service. We could use a whole lot of guys and gals like you in the military.

Do you know Cpt. Will Calkins?

He is stationed a the base, to the best of my knowledge. But he is not a fisherman.

Be safe and careful overseas and head back home ASAP.

Let us know how the fishing is in Europe and post pics of what you catch.
