Spook Replacement Hooks

Everybody says to replace hooks on spooks, and i agree 100% because they are garbage. But which brand and what size treble hooks do y'all use. Thanks 

ps. Does anybody know why a revered company like Heddon still uses crappy hooks???

Owner ST-36 for me.

If it's a real spook, I add a split ring, and use Vanadium Inlines.  Otherwise, ST-36 for me.

It all depends when the Spook was made and which model since many that are still around have the Excalibur TX3 Rotating Treble hooks which I tend to really like. I throw the bigger spook on Casting gear with braid often, or heavy mono, so I leave the saltwater hooks, and older one's need split rings, so I leave them since they are 3x strong.

For topwater lures I use VMC Inline Trebles to replace hooks since the price is great and they make a #3 and #5, but I like the Owner ST-41 Stinger hooks for spooks since they are 2x strong but you can go up in size or just get a shorter shank, adding a dressed treble helps as well...

The new one's you see at Walmart that do not have model numbers have crappy hooks,I have a box of Eagle Claw Lazer Trebles that were once on sale for $10 per 100, so I use them often since I have most sizes and they are good hooks. I only pay for Gamakatsu when the packs are 2.99, 5 hooks for $7 is bizarre to me, as long as they are not Matzuo I am good.

How do you replace the hooks on a spook?  I found one and the brackets holding the hook are 'riveted" onto the body of the spook so you can't take out the hooks without cutting them off or breaking off the bracket.

I've never seen ones that were riveted, usually just small screws. If they really are riveted though, a pair of side cutters and a split ring will still allow you change out hooks.

Ah, let me re-check the spook when I get home, maybe they are small screws and I'm recalling incorrectly.  If they are screws they come right out with any screwdriver that fits?

Yes, I use a screwdriver meant for glasses.

Small screwdriver t change out the hooks, and place a drop of super glue on the threads before screwing it back in - and I mean a tiny drop!  You want to be able to break the seal when those hooks go dull.
