Pretty "clicky" around here!

Hello all i tried in april to join a couple clubs up here in the rice lake barron county areas was met with little interest kind of disappointed! Would just like to meet new people etc seems kind of clickey to me if you know what I mean. See you on the water! Junebugman

What do you mean by "clicky"?  Were they not taking members or were they just cold and indifferent?  SOMETIMES you'll come across a group of fellas who already have their desired "good old boy" network and aren't really interested in expanding.  In such cases, it's best just to brush the dust off your hands and move on.

Local bass clubs can be great, but there are some where you'll see grown men act like a bunch of babies over a 3 hour tournament after work.

Your better off finding out now before you waste your time and money. I joined a club in West Tennessee which was a total loss. Not helpful in any way whatsoever. I used to be a range officer in a rod and gun club before I moved so I know how a good sportsman's club ought to be run. The club I joined though was nothing more than a group of good boys who like to fish but with each other. Maybe if I had been born here it would have been different but being from another state it was like well thank you for your money and that was that. I gave it a try for four months before I decided that it was a total waste of my time. My suggestion is to go to two or three meetings before you join anything. If you do not feel welcome then simply walk off. You will be much better off.

Donating my $.02. For what it's worth, the only bass club near me has an annual fee of $1500.00. Heck, if I had that kind of money, I'd get a killer kayak.  From personal experience, I would rather just be helpful to other fishermen.  I had a spare $3.00 LED flashlight and gave it to a guy who was without. He and his buddy spent a half hour explaining the contours of the lake, suggested lures and presentations to use, and I was only out three bucks!

$1500?!?! Sounds more like a circuit, not a club. I'd like to think for that kind of cash you'd be eating steak and eggs on tournament day, with a BBQ afterwards.

 J. Bricker: Not sure if it's appropriate to name the club, but they have a website that lists the membership fees.  Took my breath away! If ya want a deal, they have a family membership for 2K! Or four weeks for a measly $675.00.  Claims to be a private 128-acre lake with a max of ten boats allowed on it at a time. I'll not bore you with the rest of the details.

Me and a some friends were thinking of starting a club of our own with no dues lol just a bunch of guys and a love of fishing and no dues

So I am in a local club it's great. Our dues are $35 for a year. That helps pay for the rent on our club lodge, and plaques given out for monthly tournaments. Fee for a tourney is $35 (25 for the tourney and 10 for big bass pot). Fished last week took first and big bass out of 13 people fishing, paid back 221. Look around you will find the right one.

We have a buddy club tournament series. One time fee per year of $10 per person to pay for insurance. 15 or so events a year and a 2 day end of the year classic if you finish in the top 15. For the most part drama free. We have been doing it for 25 years now and you don't have to do anything but show up if you want to fish!!

Some bass clubs can be like that especially if you're new. If you're still interested in joining one, check out the Chippewa Valley Bass Attack. It's a club filled with some pretty good guys. They are based out of EC, but fish up north a lot. No club fee other than the B.A.S.S. Affiliation fee of $90 or something like that.

From my perspective Fishing clubs are a waste of money and time.  Now I happen to live in an area (Orange County NY) where there are literally almost no active "publicly known" clubs.

 

If fishing can't be enjoyed alone then you might rethink the sport.

Junebug, there are clique's every where.

 

They are in my bass club.

 

They control the tournament schedule.

 

They help each other launch their boats at blastoff and then trailer their boats at the weigh-ins.

 

They talk to each other after tournaments and not to the other guys.

 

They have a "good ole boy" communication system where they spread news among themselves and do not include the other guys.

 

They buy bulk oil together and work on each other's boats and motors.

 

They share information among themselves via cell phone during tournaments.

 

Some of these guys grew up together or have business relationships. Their personal ties are strong.

 

Until you join a club and become a part of the club's clique you just have to deal with it. As long as you know it exists you will not have any problems. Just sit back, smile and learn from them all you can.

 

Good luck finding a club.

Grumpy, this is not unusual.

 

There are private ponds and lakes that charge to fish.

 

I just found one, by accident, outside Richmond that charges $30 for a half day in a skiff or $70 for a half day in their bass boat using the trolling motor.

 

Only two people fishing at any one time. Catch and release all bass over 9-inches.

 

The pond holds some very large bass and they have the Virginia Game and Inland Fisheries scales and forms just in case you catch a big one.

 

I have fished a private pond and it was great. Went with a client who has a house on the lake.  We had a great time. He told me that they have a twenty name waiting list to join the fishing club.  Go figure.

There used to be a club around here, may still be, they only permitted six members. They were B.A.S.S. affiliated way back when, possibly FLW now if still around at all.

 

Back in the B.A.S.S. days, only the top six members from a team could go to the state team tournament, thus the limited membership of six. My numbers may be off, along with "state team tournament" title, but the reasoning is not. I knew one of the founders. Just always seemed greasy to me.

In a former life I was a director at a water ski club on a private 25 acre lake.

We had a 4 boat max with 10 members.

We held record capable tournaments and our annual expenses were  high and expenses were past to guest, but the club assumed all the downside.

We were all life long friends and I am sure we came off upidy and snobbish. That said we had a list a mile long to join.  Those yrs are long past and I am sure I could not get into the club I started............KARMA

 

People are people and there are always extenuating circumstances.

It is still six.
