Ponderboi77 Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but has anyone been near Huntington Beach/Newport Beach jetties and fished them? I live in Fullerton (so inland!!!!) and driving the all the way to seal or long beach is a pain. I was planning on going there and throwing some 3" big hammers but I'm not sure. Also, what rigs do you guys use? I usually just freeline or a small leader. Also- I've seen the tiny jetties on the coast of Newport, but there are no results on those whatsoever. Quote
BassinCali Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Try pier j in lbc and you can use the hammer 3 in with a 1/4 swim jig head Quote
Ponderboi77 Posted September 29, 2016 Author Posted September 29, 2016 Cool, gonna try that this weekend! Anywhere else/species most abundant there? Quote
BassinCali Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 youll find spotted bay, sand bass and halibut there among others. Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted September 29, 2016 Super User Posted September 29, 2016 Newport Bay itself is a good option as well. Pier J is another one. They used to let people fish off the jetty at the base of Shoreline Drive between the Marina and the beach that extends almost out to on of the oil islands. The surf around Belmont will produce halibut with the same lures just outside the surf (what little there is). 2 Quote
Ponderboi77 Posted September 30, 2016 Author Posted September 30, 2016 On Google Maps. pier j seems to be a shipping container area? However, there are two jetties that are shaped like flipped "L"s. Also, in Newport, the outside of the bay seems to have piers and the smaller surf jetties. Were you talking about those? Sceen-shots would be appreciated! Thanks. EDIT: my mistake, a bit northwest of the bay. Also, sorry for posting these late at night, I have absolutely no time to check (yay weekend)! Quote
blckshirt98 Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Not trying to advertise another website but trying to help a fellow bass angler out - scsurffishing.com is an amazing resource for surf fishing in SoCal especially in the LA/OC region. Create an account and post up your question and you should get a lot of responses. Be sure to check https://www.wildlife.ca.gov/Conservation/Marine/MPAs for the restricted areas. Newport/Huntington should be safe but if you ever start to head south towards Laguna/Dana Point a good chunk of shoreline is off limits. 2 Quote
Super User JustJames Posted October 3, 2016 Super User Posted October 3, 2016 The only jetty I used to fish at is the one in Seal Beach. I caught nice halibut there. Surf fishing would be better around the beach area than fish from only jetties. Quote
Ktho Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 I'd fish in Newport harbor, Huntington and Los Al before fishing the jetties. Swimbaits and grubs on 1/4oz and 3/8oz leadheads are a good start. Newport is easiest to access but Los Al/Huntington seem to produce bigger fish. Quote
