Straight fluoro or braid on spinning outfit

I just got my new Lew's Laser G spinning combo today. It's the 300 series reel and a 6'6" medium/fast rod. I am going to use it for weightless finesse worms, shaky heads, and drop shotting which is all pretty new to me since I usually power fish. Just wanting some opinions on fishing either straight 8# seagaur red label fluoro, 10# Lew's speed braid, or the braid with a fluoro leader. I don't really care about the brand that's just what I normally use. Any advice is appreciated

I've had terrible experiences with Red Label on spinning gear. It just springs off the spool for me. Switched to multiple different Sunlines fluorocarbons and I've had no issues like that at all.

For me, I use either straight fluoro or braid with a leader.

I go braid + leader for spinning and casting.

IMO, braid so much easier to manage, and 
with a well-tied leader knot, you'll be good
to go.

Hot topic, though. There are braid purists, 
fluoro/mono/copoly purists, and mixed
purist like me  so you'll be told all manner
of methods.

I've been using Red Label this summer and haven't had any issues with wind loops or jumping off the reel.  The line did seem to keep a lot of memory and would stay somewhat curled.

 

This last week I sprayed it down with KVD line and lure and wow what a difference!

 

I have a spool of 8lb yo zuri hybrid I was going to spool up with but I think the KVD fixed my problem.  I would like to try braid with a leader but i lose so much terminal tackle due to snags I would be redoing leaders almost as much as I'm fishing.

I like braid with leaders. Try a long leader like 8'.

Straight braid unless you need the abrasion resistance. Braid that small is such thin diameter that it's hard to see as is.

Ive had far better results with flouro leader than straight braid.  One day started with leader and caught fish.  Broke leader and went straight braid no results.  Tied new leader and caught more fish.

Not saying its visibility but flouro leader gives you advantages not possible with braid

Drop shot for deep, open water, I use straight fluoro - 6# Tatsu.  For your other presentations listed, I use 15-20# braid and fluoro leader material (not reel fill line).

flourocarbon line gives your bait a more natural presentation , mostly on the fall ( think wacky rigged stick baits ) and the sinking of the flourocarbon line takes the bow out of the line providing better slack line sensitivity . like Yudo1 said , try a long leader , he suggested 8' , i acctually use a longer one , mostly 10 - 15 feet , as i can take advantage of the flouro benifits i mentioned , plus i can control the line twist and memory issues better by using a leader connected to braid ! as far as strenth , learn to tie good connective knots for the braid to flouro leader , i keep it simple and tie a double uni and it's plenty strong . another benifit is saving a LOT of money by using leaders of flouro making a 200 yard spool last a long time !!!

Braid is great for moving baits but not so great for semi-slack presentations IMO. For the techniques you listed, I believe FC is the far superior choice. However, I would not put Red Label on a spinning set up. for the money and quality , it's hard to beat Sunline Sniper !! not much memory ( for a leader it's not a factor ) very strong , and for $20 a 200 yard spool , it's a no brainer ..

I agree with Big Bait here. I am not going to say I have done this yet but after spooling my wife's spinning reel with Red Label it definitely just comes off the reel and it frustrates my wife a lot. I know from experience that braid on a spinning reel is very nice because it has little to no memory. So I vote with Big Bait braid with a fluorocarbon leader like 10 feet. I will be respooling my wife's and my spinning reels with this.

try some 6 or 7 lb. Sniper , i use 6 lb. and it is VERY good ...

every body has their own preferences but thought i'd throw this out there , for me , the best line combo i've come across is Sunline SX1 in 10 lb. ( braid )  &  Sunline Sniper in 6 lb. ( florocarbon ) , best casting , very strong , and super manageable , i see no reason to try anything different ...

are you using this for finnese or regular baits ? ,  cause that's a pretty stout connection . i bet if you dropped down from 20 lb. braid to 10 or 12 lb. braid you'd notice improver casting distance and the line would flow through guides a lot better ( especially your connection knot ). sounds like a casting set up , is it ?

No Sir, I use that on my spinning setup for strictly finesse presentations...7' 2" MH/F Crucial with a Shimano 3000 FJ Symtere reel. I use a uni to uni knot with no more than a 4ft leader and really like it. I don't think it's too stout at all and can cast as far as I need to. Even tho my knot is bigger than most line to line ones I don't reel it past the top guide. 

However keep in mind I don't fish in a lot of deep, clear, uncluttered water..I really think if I go any lighter I wouldn't gain that much. 20# is really thin, and being braid I still have the strength to do pretty much everything I would need a spinning setup for.

On one of my casting setups...(Loomis 843C), I use straight 20# Lb for basically the same baits also, but only if fishing heavier t rig's and go up from there.

right on ! it just seems that a smaller pound test flouro gives the bait a lot more natural action . but hey , whatever works !!

any of my spinning set-up's that had full Flouro were re-spooled with 20# braid.  My finesse rods very from 7 to 10# Sniper flouro Leaders.
