BassinNCstyle Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 I'm looking to get one for my kayak. Bps sells a 48amp. Anything I should know about an agm? Is there some special charge instructions? If you have another suggestion on a battery please share. Thanks! Quote
Super User Darren. Posted September 26, 2016 Super User Posted September 26, 2016 Werker WKDC12-35J Is only a 35AH battery, so if you are needing more, this isn't for you. But I never run out of juice as I don't run it for hours on end traveling to a particular spot. 1 Quote

I looked at the BPS models, but comparatively, Werker, Duracell, others can be found for much cheaper... Just checked BatteriesPlus.com and they're selling this as a replacement: https://www.batteriesplus.com/replacement/battery/werker/wkdc12=35j/sladc12=35j 2 Quote
BassinNCstyle Posted September 26, 2016 Author Posted September 26, 2016 Thanks! Definitely one yo look at. I do like that bps has 48ah. Have you ever ran yours dry? 2 hours ago, Darren. said: I looked at the BPS models, but comparatively, Werker, Duracell, others can be found for much cheaper... No, but looking at the site, it looks like it might actually be 54AH...? @J Francho, @A-Jay are we looking at the AH right on this battery? Super User WRB Posted September 26, 2016 Super User Posted September 26, 2016 10 amp charger with auto shut off. Tom Quote

I use a pair of 31M's on board the Old Town. I am not familiar with or a fan of using "little" batteries to power my fishing. A-Jay 1 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted September 27, 2016 Super User Posted September 27, 2016 Just now, A-Jay said: I use a U1 as a starting battery on a 33 inch self propeller walk behind mower. My 35AH works for many hours of a trip of starting, stopping, etc. I guess the question I had was is the BPS battery a legit 54AH? Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted September 27, 2016 Super User Posted September 27, 2016 When comparing deep cycle batteries the same load rating should be used. For trolling motor use, a 20 or 25 A rating should be used. At that rating a 54 AH battery will last two hours at about medium speed of a trolling motor. 1 Quote
Skeeter Dan Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 Vmax Tank trolling motor AGM. There a little high but they have a battery for every need. Vmax tank is considered one of the best. So check them out. I just bought the 137 AGM which has a 127 ah. 1 Quote
WPCfishing Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 I use a series 29 interstate deep cycle battery for my 55 enduramax and a 10ah seal lead acid for my depth finder. Never have problems and batteries never get close to being drained. Im not sold on the AMG batteries. They're typically heavier and over priced. If I had to mount a battery on its side I would buy for obvious reasons. I use a 2-10 amp digital charger on the 29 and a 1 amp charger on the 10ah battery. Quote
Super User Angry John Posted March 2, 2017 Super User Posted March 2, 2017 I am also looking for a yak battery, and the U1 is a good size but only to run a sonar. If your looking to run a motor you need to be looking much larger. Weight and size is at a premium and I chose to not have a motor due to this fact. The smallest I would go would be a group 24. You might want to check out MK batteries as they are made in the USA and are a good product IMO. Another choice that may interest you is a gel battery. In a single battery operation they provide a lot of the same benefits of being maintenance free, but will handle many more load cycles than the AGM before being spent. They can require a special charger but if your only dealing with one and not bank chargers like on a full sized boat this should be a non issue. They are used a lot in wheel chairs, so long life with repeated charging is critical. Quote
JP42 Posted May 20, 2021 Posted May 20, 2021 What do you recommend for a 101 lb thrust Minn Kota Terova model requiring 36 volts. That’s three batteries. Also any advice on solar hook up for charging? Quote

That’s three batteries. Also any advice on solar hook up for charging? A lot of variables to keep in mind. There's currently three types of batteries: standard (lead acid), AGM, and lithium. They go up in price with each upgrade but you should theoretically get more life out of each one too if you properly charge them. There's no guarantees though as people's personal experience with battery life is all over the board it seems. Lithiums are relatively new to the market but I have seen them advertised on the Bass Pro/Cabela's flyers as Tracker Lithium for $500 each. It sounds like a big up-front investment to me. If you need 3, you're looking at 1500 bucks. I currently use the standard 27 series interstates on my trolling motor (24 volts). I had the same set up batteries for 4.5 seasons which is pretty good for these. I replaced them with the same set last June when I got a killer deal along with trade in of the old ones. I don't know anyone who has lithiums but maybe someone who does will chime in with their opinion. There's a few people with AGMs on here too. Quote
Super User Bird Posted May 20, 2021 Super User Posted May 20, 2021 I do recommend an AGM battery but which one is dependent upon how you use it. I can fish all day with a 26Ah , stop and go and the battery is relatively lightweight for my kayak. If I'm fishing a big body of water and know I'll be fighting wind, simply throw in a spare. Larger capacity batteries can be VERY heavy so I find it easier to deal with (2) lightweight batteries and 90% of the time I'm fine fishing until I'm content with a 26Ah AGM 12V battery. My trolling motor has a battery indicator on it so I've become acclimated to battery range. Note: try to avoid full draw for long periods. Quote
