I'm going to be using spinning reels for some of my fishing now and is their a way to have 2 grips on the handle like a bait caster? I'm used to 2 handles and I like it better.

The reviews say it isn't really a good reel, is there any way I could attach a double paddle to a spinning reel

Where are you reading those reviews? Between cabelas and bps it gets above a 4-star average

There is nothig at all wrong with those spirex reels. I switched out the handles to a single after fishin the double, just didnt care for it. Used singles from older shimanos.

The Spirex is a decent reel. Just keep in mind the weakest point on it is the quick shot, one handed bail opener. It is cheap plastic and when it goes, and it will (I speak from personal experience) the reel loses its balance.

I generally like Shimano stuff but I think this reel is more gimmick than substance.

I agree - I bought one based on a recommendation from a friend...it was quickly relegated to being put on a back-up rod I seldom use.

I think the Spirex are great reels. I've got two,
a front drag 2500 and a rear drag 1000, both
have handled bass up to 5 pounds as well as
saltwater use. I use Stradics for the past many
years, and my kids use the Spirex reels mostly
now, but every so often I will use one myself.

I had a couple of those. Mine were really good, very solid performers for many years.

The handle from the spirex will fit other shimanos. There are threads on a couple of walleye boards on guys swapping the handles out on a Sedona with the spirex handle. I don't know for sure what all reels it will fit though. Daiwa has the emeraldas reel with double handles and it interchanges into several reels also. Might be cheaper to buy one of these two handles instead of the hedgehog parts if you can find a shimano or daiwa you like that can fit them

I had the rear drag Spirex. If you are going to get one the rear drag model is the one to get. It has the fighting drag handle on it. Another gimmick but one I actually like.

If they made the Spirex rear drag with fighting drag, double paddle handle but no quick shot it would be one of my favorite reels.

I have been using Shimano Spirex Spinning reels for over 20 years now and these are great reels for bass fishing. I caught my biggest bass to date on one of these reels,as well as my 2nd and 3rd biggest bass. The Spirex might not be a expensive reel, but it's a great reel for the price and can handle fish much more powerful than a bass.

The Spirex isn't a bad reel. My dad uses them all the time and usually the bail or bail spring breaks before anything else or at least has been the case over they years with the reels my dad has owned.

I have a few of the spirex 1000fe reels that i still use.

I did switch  them to a one handle  design  though.

In my opinion  they are very good reels. Mine are just as smooth as my stradics and sustains.

I may be one  of  the  few who likes  the quick  fire trigger.

I just wish the reels were a little  lighter.
