Drop shot hook suggestions?

I'm also getting ready to try the Drop Shot method and have been reading this thread with interest.  My question is, why such small hooks?  If we're using 3/0, 4/0, and 5/0 hooks for Texas worming and 2/0 and 3/0 for Shakey Head fishing, why is 1/0 usually considered the largest hook used for drop shot-ing?  Seems like a thin offset shank hook in the 2/0 to 3/0 range would also work well.

It is all depend on the bait/plastic you use. Most of the time drop shot bait is quite small so small hook would be better "key word finesse". But you can use whatever hook you prefer as long as it match your bait.

I caught bass on EWG 3/0 before using drop-shot but I use Zman Craw as a bait.

Also it depends on how you hook the worm too. I guess most of the people here prefer nose hook so worm hook / offset shank hook might leave too much exposed. I, on the other hand, alway start with gamakatsu ewg #2 as my goto drop shot hook for weedless style to prevent any snag under water. I use that hook to all kind of worm, jr. Super Fluke, grub etc.

Match the bait to the hook.  Caught this guy on a tiny 3" plastic bait, using a #4 hook:

An Owner Mosquito in a size 4 is the hook I use most of the time.  I use it because like others have said I like to use small plastics (3.5"-5"), and I nose hook my baits because I feel it gives them the best action in the water.  If I use a smaller crappie size baits or baits with a larger "head" section like a fluke, I'll downsize/upsize accordingly.  Don't be afraid to use a small hook, i actually think it's easier to hook up because you don't need to apply a lot of pressure to get the hook to penetrate to the barb.

On a sidenote - on snags where I was able to get my hook/weight back, where the line is strong enough to pull the hook free - Gamakatsu Split Shot/Drop Shot hooks are more likely to break, Owner Mosquito hooks are more likely to bend.

Line twist is eliminated with VMC spinshot drop shot hooks, i use the size 1 hooks. Anything with a spinshot kind of deal i recommend
