Favorite Jig Head For Grubs ?

What is your favorite 1/8th  ~ 3/16th oz.  lead jig head for fishing Kalin's , Zoom Fat Albert or other 3.5" ~ 4" grubs for bass ? While it's easy to find round or darter style jig heads - finding the right hook size and length can be a problem for grubs . Thanks in advance ...

You can always pour your own with the weight-hook size you want, I'm not going to say I invented shakey heads but I've poured my own jigheads with oversized hooks for 30+ years when they weren't called shakeyheads.

I go the route Raul stated, pour my own. I use a bullet head mold and a 1/0 or 2/0 hook. The price of a store bought darter head should be illegal. If you use them a lot, it would quickly pay for itself just to buy a small pot and a mold or two. I like the bullet head because it makes a pretty decent tube head as well.

I have some Jigheads I found a few years ago made by Kalin's which are darter heads, light wire weed guard,and they work great when bass are suspended and I use them in deeper water in 1/16, 1/8 with 3-4" Grubs, 4" Sluggos, the hooks is only maybe 1/0 but strong....The Gulp Jigheads or boxer heads (Trokar makes a nice saltwater Jighead with smaller hooks in the #2 size, and nice color detail, and Dicks has had packs of 3 for bogo at 6.99. 1/16 1/8 but VMC makes them and so does D.O.A which are good....

Depending on the grub, you can rig them like a texas rig on the slider jig heads or those Luck E Strike Bullet style hooks, or ust use a Light bulllet weight pegged to the grub with a worm hook texas rigged for weeds.

I use the gamakatsu lightwire 1/4oz football head for swimming grubs and other smaller stuff. I find the football head makes it a bit more snag resistant when im fishing around wood, and seems to help it track just a tad deeper than ball heads

I might have to start making some , I have plenty of lead . I've been wanting a short shank jig head to use with paddle tail grubs for many years now . I have never seen them except on the net by DOA , and I refuse to pay those prices .  I take   crappie heads and bend the hooks to get what I want ,but this is risky because of the weakened inferior  hook 

If you get a Sassy Shad straight on a short shank hook the lure vibrates much more ..

I used to use alot of owner jigheads, in various styles, Just because they had stout hooks that lasted and kept a point well. But my state now has a lead ban and Im still searching for a good alternative.

 The owners are expensive but I felt they are worth it.

I like Northland's Thumper jig heads.  I guess you could call them an underspin but the little belly blade mostly just add flutter and flash.

Thanks for the Gama , Owner , etc. suggestions (I don't go through enough to pour my own) ... I use Gopher for my Ned Jigs and forgot they have other sizes which I can select - I simply forgot about Gopher being an option - thanks !

If you want a strong over size hook look at swing head jigs like Dirty jigs swing football with 3/0 & 4/0 hooks.

The DOA Jigheads are heavy guage and we get lucky down here since they send packages where maybe the eyes fall off or color is off and they sell packs for $2....

Bass Assassin makes an Identical jig head, I know their website had them for .25 but I think only the 5/0 long shank are left but they are expensive high  grade jigs which are great for bigger baits texas rigged. Mustad Ultra points, 3 colors, they sell bulk bags of  like 25 free shipping. They may have the short shanks left which are just like the DOA only a bit longer. This may sound crazy, but Kmart Sells the Matzuo jig heads and I always figured Matzuo hooks were Junk because of the Sickle Hooks I once had, but they have Jigheads very similar that have really strong hooks. Only issue is they paint over eyes but $1.79 for 5 jigs that seem almost the same,cheaper paint but not bad...

I love the slider heads and I recently found the lindy xchange ball heads that allow you to adjust weight on the fly, overstock has them for like .50 per pack, 4 heads, 1 hook that can handle braid but not too crazy...Just like the Northland jig heads....Lindy, Northland, any walleye company or saltwater company has good grub heads since it seems grubs and sassy shads are only soft baits guys use....Hope that helps..I would never pay $6 for DOA heads either but they do work well for nose hooking big swimbaits with short shank that you can't bend if you wanted to with a vise....

Exactly why I suggested looking into pouring in my post. Same with the prices they ask for Ned rig heads, which go in a hurry if a person fishes that rig much. They're around $1 apiece as well, but cost me $.04 to pour. At that price, a person can much up the difference very quickly.

Take clayton's advice and pour them yourself.  I use the ned rig a lot, and it got to the point I couldn't afford to fish it because of the jig heads costing a dollar a piece.  I know that doesn't sound like much at first, but when you average four days of fishing a week and are sometimes breaking off on a couple each trip it really starts to add up.  I purchased equipment to pour my own mushroom heads last March, and it paid for itself as of late July four months later.  Another bonus is that you can use whatever hooks you want, it's almost impossible to find the perfect combination of weight/shape/ and hook type and size in a commercially sold jig head.

Strike King tour grade ball head jig uses Gamakatsu size 3/0 for 1/8 oz if a larger size premium hook is needed.

A jig is only a good as the hook used to make it!

I fish grubs a lot, and I'm much less particular about ball head jigs for grubs than I am any other jig head.  So long as they have a size 1-2/0 hook (matched to size of grub), I'm pretty much ok with them.  I keep a hook sharpener and pliers on me, so even if they bend/dull it's an easy fix.  I don't see a reason to spend a fortune on them.  If I had the space to make jigs, I would probably just start making my own.
