I Hate Cold Weather

****ALERT !!! *** SOON ITS TIME TO FOCUS ON SNOW COVER IN SIBERIA TIME

As we move towards October it's time to begin to focus on the buildup of snow cover in Siberia. For those that did not know about the significance of snow cover in Siberia... Without getting too technical research over the past 20 years shows that when there is a large rapid buildup of snow cover in Siberia and over certain sections of Siberia in particular DURING MONTH OF OCTOBER it has significant implications for the supply of cold air over the Arctic regions that come Southward during the winter into North America. It also has significant implications for the overall jet stream pattern during the winter months in North America and the Western Hemisphere.

All that being said keep in mind this is not an absolute certainty. Last winter the snow cover was quite advanced and quite extensive in Siberia but the second strongest EL NINO on record had a significant impact of the overall jet stream pattern throughout the winter. This year since we will not have even a week La Nina it is quite likely that the snow cover build up in October in Siberia will have a much bigger impact on the overall winter patterns in North America.

Finally, I have been asked by many people already how I view the winter and I think it's a mistake in September to make to make strong comments about the winter one way or the other. I will say however that based upon the early data --- especially the buildup of very warm ocean water temperature anomalies in the northeastern Pacific in and around the Gulf of Alaska --- I am somewhat positive with regard to this winter being at least normal. And if things break the right way we could be active and colder and snowier than normal for the eastern part of the country.

I don't know that I hate cold weather, I just don't like the northwest winds blowing 20mph like we get up here in the winter months, also hardly ever seeing the sun in the winter,,,, but other than that,,,,

Cold weather can be a good thing to fishermen.  First, in scares all the pleasure boaters off the water.  No jet skis, skiers, cabin cruisers doing nothing but running circles.  Second, it can start the fall fat-building frenzies that fish do to make it thru the winter which allows us to catch more of them.  Third, we can actually enjoy being on the water without being scorched or dehydrated...feels nice to put a couple of layers on in the morning and peel them off as the day goes on.  Lastly, when winter finally comes in and shuts us down, spring is not far behind.

I draw the line for softwater season when ice starts forming on my line, strangely that didn't happen until January this winter. I was fishing from shore on christmas day in 60 degree sunshine, which for Massachusetts is ridiculous. Then it's just a wait for 3-4" of beautiful black ice.

LOVE FALL.......favorite time of the year....and winter ..... due to the fact I live in Tennessee is awesome fishing time.  Like he said above...coat in the morning and short sleeves later in the day.

I wouldn't say I love the cold, but I do love Ice Fishing, so I guess I have to like it at least a little. I've been down to a t-shirt before while ice fishing on nice sunny days.

I don't mind the cold, it's the snow that I HATE! 

I wouldn't mind snow so much if I didn't have to spend half of my day driving in it. Even driving in snow wouldn't be so bad, but there's a certain percentage of the population that doesn't seem to grasp the concept.

I'll take the cold over the heat every day. I firmly believe anyone who would rather have the heat doesn't do manual labor for work. If you had to pack construction materials all day you'd rather be in the cold. I can always wear a hat , gloves and coat

 But in the heat I'm SOL. Hate the heat. Only thing you can do (enjoyably) in summer that you can't do in spring and fall is swim. And when you're blue collar you dont get to spend most of your time swimming.

I don't mind the colder temps, or even snow.  When that wind is blowing off of the water then I call it quits.

all i know is that i'm so sick of the summer heat right now i cant wait for some cooler fall temps. and when winter gets old i will be begging for the heat again. go figure.

We parallel in thought. I would rather fish in coveralls than in shorts.

And I hate the temperature that they don't  . . . all of that too.

Could care less if I'm wearing Omni-Heat or Omni-Freeze -

I'm almost always more comfortable with a tight line.

I enjoy the change of seasons where I live. Hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Just around the time the seasons change I am sick of the prior one and ready for the new one.

Love my fishing, boating and swimming in the summer but I am ok when winter rolls around and snow cover gives me a break from yard work.

Welp...there's a reason we moved from Western NY
to VA. And not just for family...hated the winters there.
Driving home on sheets of ice in the winter from downtown
Rochester with the sun square in my eyes on the horizon
because my visors couldn't go that low to block it...ugh.

Don't miss it at all except for friends!

Though I can say that I don't like extreme heat, either. It
would be better w/o the humidity, of course. Give me 76º
year-round and I'd be a happy camper.

I enjoy the changing of the seasons here.  I really like going from summer to fall and from winter to spring.  Since I have a lot of hobbies during every season, I keep busy all the time.  I don't particularly care for the extreme cold/snow in January or the extreme hot/humidity in July, but I can tolerate it for the most part.  Its a lot easier to warm up than it is to cool down too.  I often hear a lot of people around here complain about winter but if they live here they should know that its the upper Midwest and its going to be like that for months at a time.  If you don't like it, move south.

I have always said I have a body built for warm weather. Definitely not a fan of the cold.
