Luna2406 Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 So its been raining all week and its expected to rain until Friday night. Saturday is supposed to be nice, probably cloudy/sunny. My thinking is, the bass have been eating throughout the week since its been nice and cloudy and not too cool, the weather hasn't really changed too much just rain. I have a feeling Saturdays fishing is going to be a bit rough. What do you guys think?? This past weekend was nice and the topwater bite was awesome all weekend, really hoping that its the same this weekend! Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted September 21, 2016 Super User Posted September 21, 2016 I absolutely LOVE fishing after rain, or during rain. 5 Quote
GORDO Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 As long as the barometric pressure is rising or falling ie. not holding at 30 the fishing should be golden regardless of rain or shine! 2 Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 21, 2016 Super User Posted September 21, 2016 The best time to go fishing is anytime you can go fishing! 9 Quote
Super User gim Posted September 21, 2016 Super User Posted September 21, 2016 I actually target days with rain in the forecast because it generally keeps recreational riff raff and families off the lake. 6 Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted September 22, 2016 Super User Posted September 22, 2016 I love it when it rains heavily for a couple days in South Florida, the bass start moving around to some predictable areas and that's where I will be fishing for them.Another plus of heavy rain days is that it keeps most people away from the water and I can fish in peace. 2 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted September 22, 2016 Super User Posted September 22, 2016 The bite I was on last week was completely shut down with the rain we had here - 3 1/2 inches worth. Hope you don't end up with any part of that action . . . A-Jay 2 Quote
Luna2406 Posted September 22, 2016 Author Posted September 22, 2016 fishing in the rain is something I love doing, some of my best days of fishing have been on rainy days. I haven't had too much luck fishing before or after storms tho, which is why I was wondering if maybe I was missing something haha. 1 Quote

Can you elaborate on this? Rising or falling over time? Over or under 30? And what's your method of figuring it out? Quote
GORDO Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 There are so many good articles on the pressure changes! When the pressure is changing it usually brings a front, wind, clouds and that is what affects the fish. You can see what the pressure is on your weather apps but I like weather underground personally. A lot of people have great success just before or after a storm and a lot of people suspect its due to the pressure changing in the air. Ill try and find a link to another article on here for you Quote
Luna2406 Posted September 27, 2016 Author Posted September 27, 2016 So fishing was tough for me that Saturday, I only found one 10" bass. haha the lakes were about 2-3 feet higher because of the rain and everything I had been trying did not work for me. I tried new things and new areas but I just could not get into any fish. A lot of my buddies had trouble finding fish too, so that's the only reason I know it wasn't because I suck haha..wait what if we all suck... Quote
GORDO Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 I doubt that you all suck lol when the water rises, which makes the water muddy, I always try to fish as shallow as possible. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted September 27, 2016 Super User Posted September 27, 2016 Some of my best bass catching days came when it was raining so hard that you could hardly see the end of the boat. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted September 28, 2016 Super User Posted September 28, 2016 Caught 19 bass from shore standing in one spot skip fan casting. In the light soft rain. At the same time the deer were on the move too. The moon phase was just right. Quote
Super User geo g Posted September 28, 2016 Super User Posted September 28, 2016 If its rained all week and the water levels are up, fish shallow in the newly flood areas. Lots of food in those new flooded areas, from bugs to worms. to small fish eating the bounty. Also look for current and especially the slack areas close to the current. L/M will often sit in the slack areas, close to the current, in ambush mode. It can also be very difficult if you can't get back into the newly flooded areas, like in the Everglades. Good luck! Quote

Cardiologist Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 I catch more bass when it's raining, choppy, cloudy than when it's sunny. They are on the prowl and bite anything! Quote

Overcast, windy, 60 degrees...not a soul out there. 11 bass and 3 pike here Quote
Super User Sam Posted October 2, 2016 Super User Posted October 2, 2016 Over four-inches of rain at my house by Bosher's Dam on the Historic James River this past week. As for fishing, who knows? Tidal James still OK but when the water flow intensifies from out west the river will be chocolate milk. As for lakes, probably not so much of a problem once you get into the lower end and out of the creeks. You have to watch out for debris no matter where you go. As for the projected bite, with lots of rain and now blue bird skies I think fishing will be tough. 1 Quote
Super User Spankey Posted October 2, 2016 Super User Posted October 2, 2016 I'm pretty much a river rat. I'm happy to see this well deserved rain. Over the last few weeks the conditions forced me to the lake. Not worth the chance of engine damage. Gives me a chance to change my approach and do some largemouth fishing, and I've done pretty well. I'm having a great season this year and want to finish up on the river well. This year has been one that has been basically all natural colors early on that have worked for me. No complaints. Just have not had a lot of stained water to fish. 1 Quote
