Hello fellow boaters,

I have a little issue facing me this eve. I am going to do a some fishing tomorrow morn. I just pick my beast up from the shop. We disconnected the oil injection system to my 93 Evinrude 200. I now must mix at 50 to 1.

Here is my problem. The tank still has an unmeasureable amount of gas in it without oil mixed. My gauges long quit working so I don't know if they are full, 1/2 full or what? I do not know the size of the tanks. The boat is a 93 Stratos 201 proXL.

I tried to buy a pump but couldn't find anything for gasoline - just oil, water etc. - I bought one anyway- it attaches to a drill. I stuck the hose in and fired it up - when the gas got to the mechinism(sp?) is spewed out onto the drill and my hands. The little unit heated up too - so I thought I better discontinue use. I did fill a cooler with water and run the water through it and it worked much better?????

So....do I guess?? try to top it off and guess how big the tank is and dump that plus a little extra to good measure.

Dare I go mouth siphon? I have done it before growing up on boats and got gas mouth a couple of them :D I am currently considering that?

Suggestions?? I have a huge 15 gallon tank I am using to put the gas in as it exits the line. Want to fish tomorrow morn!!!! Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks,

To start a siphen you can try tying a string midway around a piece of cloth (to make a plunger) and then pull it through the tubeing quickly (simular to cleaning a gun barrel) so that you are able to create a suction in the tube. or if you are able to seal off the tank openning (with a rag and hand preasure) around the tube blow into it to get air preasure into the tank that will push the gas out thru the tube when you quit. I personally wounldn't use any electrical motor that isn't sealed since the brushes in them can create a spark. If you can measure the tank you should be able to figure the cubic inches it will hold or if you can measure the depth of fuel in the tank useing a stick ect. that should tell you how much gas is in the tank also. Here is the link to one convertion sites. I think volume inches to gal. will work. If you do try to suck the gas out give yourself enough tubeing length to form a dip in the line, then you are able to get it started without getting it in your mouth. Over the years I have had my fair share of the taste of gas and haven't had a major problem yet.

If you fill the tubeing up with gas first then while holding your finger over one end, stick the other in the tank, lower the capped off end into place below the tank and take off your finger. That works probably the best especially if the tank level is low or you have a fairly high rise to draw it out where gravity takes over.   The other ways I mentioned work best when there isn't a lot of air volume or the fuel doesn't have to rise much.

Plan on the amount needed for the 52 gallons and then add a tad of good measure. Better to over oil than under.

I just drained my tank yesterday. I took off the sender unit for the gas gauge, inserted a water hose, and then used a kerosene siphon to get the gas into a portable tank. 3 tanks later, my tank was dry.

Just wated to thank you guys again for replying Friday and trying to help me out!  I ended up topping them off and adding the appropriate amount of oil for each 25 gallon (?) tank.  Then I put in a little extra to make sure.

The lake I fished this weeked is too small for my 20 footer but I use it there anyway - love fishing from her and use just the trolling motor.  I have to start the engine to get her back on the trailer and she fired up and ran great (for the short amount of time).

Thanks again!

Oh yes, no notables on this trip.  Bunch of 1lbs to 2lbs.
