1436 for Casting Deck

Looking at an Alumacraft jon boat that is 14' long. it is 36" wide. i want to add a casting deck in the front. if i put the deck 3 inches below the boat's lip, will it be stable enough to stand on. keep in mind that I want to bow mount a trolling motor eventually and will start with a single transom motor in the back with the batteries. this is a 1-2 person rig. thanks

Find out for yourself. Put the boat on the water and stand on the seats, wear your lifejacket. Ask someone to do it with you to get the full effect.

good idea, should i ask to test it out before buying

My Nucanoe has a 41" beam. I highly doubt that boat is going to be very stable if you have weight above the seats. Wear your vest.

If I were you I would get one with a wider deck, preferably something 42" or more. A 36" deck will not be very stable.

If you are talking about the boat I showed you last night, it had a low floor. Do not install a raised deck on any boat less than a 48 inch bottom and expect it to be stable. Your center of gravity will make it unstable.

I know you are 15 and impatient to look for the boat as people recommended you on other post. If you really want to buy that jon boat, go ahead but be warned that it is not gonna be stable. I show you my boat which is exactly what you want with casting desk on both front and back, so I do have first hand experience. To tell you the truth the first time we took the boat, it scared the hell out of me. 

If you really gonna buy that jon boat, please save some money and buy life jacket first. When you go out make sure to stand in the middle of the boat not to the side, if possible stand on flat bottom the best. Jon boat is pretty shallow in fact you might not need casting desk at all. Why do you need deck? 

Heres my boat

I control the trolling Motor with one foot on the deck. My legs and back hurt the first few times but the human body has an amazing ability to o adapt. 

You face any kind of wind or current on the deck of a small boat you might end up in the drink. 

Being a foot or so higher in the water won't catch you more fish....have trouble working a rod get a shorter pole.

I fish club tournaments on a 10hp restricted reservoir. Lots of guys running 1436 even a 1236. 1436 is 14ft length and 36" bottom width. Most have 48" or wider beams(between the gunwales). I personally built an Alumacraft 1442 NCS and it fishes wonderful with 2 guys and full tournament gear and full livewell.

It's might be better for you, at least you have to wait until you get a car to tow the boat anyway. Again look if possible look for Sun dolphin pro 120.

I see 3 guys on this boat running around and still stable enough.

It's really quite simple

Bottom wide = stability

Beam (between gunnels) = keeps ya dry

Look at the Sun Dolphin's, their bottom widths are 48" & over but only 10-12' long!

Not very wide.  I would believe very unstable for standing - especially with an added casting deck.

AlumaCraft makes good boats, the 1436 Sierra has 55" beam, bottom width wasn't listed in the specs, must be close to 48"?

1436 means 14' length & 36" bottom width

Good luck to you on whatever you get. You will have even more fun on the boat as long as you know what you are doing. Don't forget to wear life jacket at all time even when the boat not running.
