Super User tcbass Posted September 16, 2016 Super User Posted September 16, 2016 I was thinking about getting a new Ulterra for my 2014 Stratos VLO, but am now thinking about getting 2 Talons instead. I'm wondering how much would they cost, how much would they cost to have installed or could I install them myself, and are there any accessories I would need such as mounting brackets. I still have 2.5 years of warranty on the boats Evinrude E-Tec, would having the Talons installed sandwich mounted between the outboard and transom void the warranty? (The motor does not have a jack plate). How much would it cost to add 12' Talons to my boat? Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted September 17, 2016 Super User Posted September 17, 2016 Depends if you can weasel a deal on the unit cost, but I'd guess a pair would run you about $4000 minimum. Ask Ajay, he's got a pair installed on his new boat. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted September 17, 2016 Super User Posted September 17, 2016 2k per talon 250$ per bracket 150$ if you want the bow mount push switch. total: 4650$ + labor/tax if you dont do it yourself. labor is dealer dependent but 75-100$ an hour is average for most marine dealers. Shouldnt take more than 3 hours so ball park that. figure 5k give or take if you dont do it yourself. there's probably 200 youtube videos with step by step talon installation. Check your motors warranty agreement or talk to evinrude for an answer about using sandwich brackets. Quote

Could I lift the engine, put the brackets on, reinstall the motor like that? Quote
Super User slonezp Posted September 17, 2016 Super User Posted September 17, 2016 You will need to buy the lifting eye from Evinrude and get the torque specs for the motor mounting bolts Quote
RyneB Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 check around for used ones if you are worried about cost. I bought a used one for $800 a couple months ago. that was with unit, tilt bracket, mounting bracket, 2 control fobs, and quick disconnect. Quote
