adrenalizd Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 I happened upon a great deal on a President Limited Edition. $45 but they didn't have a 30 so I picked up a 35. I have noticed that everyone says that the 35 is too big. I held the regular president in the 30 size and I couldn't tell a huge difference in weight between the two. I have it paired with a 7 foot medium Daiwa tatula rod and it seems to be the perfect balance. Am I missing something? Is there a reason that I should take the 35 back and get the 30? Thank you in advance! Quote
Onvacation Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 No. You will be just fine. Weight difference is minimal. Ratio is the same but the 35 has a bigger spool so it has a higher IPT which you wouldn't even notice if you didn't have anything to compare it to. Not that it would necessarily be a disadvantage and it could even be an advantage to you. 1 Quote
adrenalizd Posted September 17, 2016 Author Posted September 17, 2016 Thank you so much! I have always loved fishing and usually spend 30 to 60 days a year fishing, but until now my "best" rod and reel was an Abu Cardinal paired with an Ugly Stik. I decided this year to treat myself and take my fishing a little further so I purchased a St. Croix Mojo paired with an Abu Ambassador for $30 from a local pawn shop, and that started it. I bought two Diawa tatula type R's and paired them with Daiwa Tatula Rods; a 7' medium and a 6'10 medium heavy. The Pflueger LE paired with a 7' medium tatula and I have an Abu Orra S30 that I am still trying to figure out what to pair it with. Quote
Onvacation Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 I have two Type Rs. They are very nice reels. Sounds like you are doing quite well feeding the sickness. Quote
adrenalizd Posted September 17, 2016 Author Posted September 17, 2016 As long as my wife doesn't figure out how to look at archived orders on Amazon I am in good shape...lol Quote
Onvacation Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 My wife gave up on me spending money on gear. But she did make me move the rod rack out of the dining room. 2 Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted September 17, 2016 Super User Posted September 17, 2016 My wife and I both own a ton of gear.We own Presidents in 30 35 and 40 sizes. I like the 35 best. You will be glad to have that one. The only time I think the smaller reels are a benefit is when I throw one on my 6 foot lite G loomis IMX. Quote
adrenalizd Posted September 17, 2016 Author Posted September 17, 2016 Very nice, Onvacation, my rod rack is in the bedroom right now, we have a nautical theme and they fit in quite nicely. Thank you fishnkamp! I really feel that the 35 fits nicely in my hand, I am a bigger guy, 6'4 so the smaller reels don't fit as well. I do have some ultralights with 20 series size reels on them and they fish fine but the 35 just seems to fit me better. It is awesome that your wife fishes too, I am trying to convince mine to come. She will catfish fish with me sometimes at night in the boat (Even though she has no clue what trying to be quiet means...lol) but she has yet to come bass fishing with me. How do you like the Loomis, I haven't had a chance to try one out yet, but I know a lot of people swear by them. Quote

adrenalizd Posted September 19, 2016 Author Posted September 19, 2016 I now have both the 35 LE and the 30 LE, I don't have an Academy near me, but Cabelas price matched and I picked up a St. Croix Mojo 6'10MLFX for $79 and a 30 LE for $55, so I brought them both home. Quote
