Here's the direction I want to head.  I want a lightweight boat that I can power with a 5-6hp outboard (55-60#'s).  Obviously speed and ride are of little concern as I will only be going hull speed <5mph right?  Sooo...how does a 1236 jon which I have but haven't been in (long story on how I acquired), compare to a 12' standard semi-v utility boat in regards to stability.  I guess what I'm asking, If you took a crestliner/alumacraft etc. and compare the 12' utility v to the 1236 jon, which is more stable and a better fishing platform if one is not concerned about the ride.  Thanks for any replies

Well, you may not be able to put a deck in either without them getting to tipsy, but floors would be fine.   What kind of water are you going to be on? Small ponds and lakes?  V's handle better in rough water BUT i believe the jon would be a little more stable to stand in.   Oh... and you can actually get some okay speed from a 1236 from a 5-6hp motor, as long as you dont load it down.
