Hey guys ,

I've seen some chatter on Facebook about a new state record smallmouth caught on Burt Lk. The fish was certified at 9.98 pounds. Beat the new state record set last fall. You can probably find some information online.

Only thing I've been able to find as yet is the one from Hubbard Lake last year.  I'll wait with bated breath to see some info, though.

I've beating up Burt for weeks - Was there yesterday & will be there tomorrow.

Smallies there are stout and hardly fished for - relatively speaking.

I lost one last week at the boat that was big.   I don't think it was a 9lb fish but it would have easily been my own PB.

Can't really tell the size of the one pictured.

Looks huge though

Found a post that said the fish came from Indian River which empties into the lake.

Where are you fishing for them this time of the year? Breaklines?

Took me a while to find them -

Locate the walleye and fish just inside or at the top of the same steep breaks - bait has to be present or it's a bust.

Lots of spots look good, but 1 out of 10 has fish.

Takes time

Wow. That's a hefty smallie lady.

A beauty.

Man, Burt is one that I've wanted to get to but haven't yet.  It's a closer drive than Hubbard Lake is, though.  Going to have to before the season is done.

It's so big it looks like a model for the Jurassic Park:Aquarium sequel.

Reading more.  Caught with a crawler.  From his dock.  Talk about dumb effing luck.

Wasn't trying to make it a political statement.  Was just relaying the info.

If you can be at the state park ramp an hour before sunrise (@ 6 am) you can watch me launch  :D

Kidding - pm me when you're going - maybe we can tag team them . . .

I'd take him up on that. Have you seen the "who would you like to fish with most " thread. A-Jay is the Peyton Manning of bass resource. Everybody loves him haha.

Ah . Just go through and read the thread.. 19/20 you're mentioned.  Although your humble and modest attitude is refreshing. It's plain as day.  Maybe not as well known as Peyton. But surely as well liked by those that do know you.

Seriously, take him up on the offer.  I'm pretty confident in my ability to catch brown bass, but @A-Jay is definitely someone I'd love to get out on the water and learn from.  He seems like a genuinely good dude and has been very humbly boating some seriously not so humble fish.  Guys like him and Hootie are like the resident smallmouth whisperers around these parts.

Also, unless that dude is a midget, that thing is an f'n behemoth.

Here is the link. Caught on a night crawler in the Indian River.  It's kind of cool that a Florida resident caught the Michigan state record.

Awesome Smallmouth Bass and even better story of how he caught this giant. Goes to show you that what matters most is being at the right place, at the right time, using the right presentation!
