Bladesmith, Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 Hard to tell because I can't see them real plain but with that long pointed nose I would say gar. Don't know if y'all have gar in WV but here you see them swimming lazily in groups like that. 2 Quote
BadBassWV Posted September 13, 2016 Author Posted September 13, 2016 I thought gar at first. One came by the boat and it was brown and orange looking. Musky?? Will gar eat other species such as bass, trout and bluegill ?? Quote
Penguino Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 Would bet on longnose gar. Doubt chain pickerel, as I've never known them to school in numbers like those. From what I know, most of the fish species in Esox are lone wolves and prefer their own space. 1 Quote
VolFan Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 My first thought was carp. Depends on the angle. Quote
jr231 Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 Just 6 forked sticks. Catch em all the time on my crank baits. 2 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 14, 2016 Global Moderator Posted September 14, 2016 Small grass carp. They school up and sit just below the surface like that all the time around here. 3 Quote

And out of nowhere they'll scare the hell out of you when they start breaking the surface for seemingly no reason. Quote

That makes since I'm going to try and Moby dick one of them and get a better look lol Quote
Fisher-O-men Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 Don't kill them if you are on a private lake. Grass carp are often stocked to control vegetation and are usually sterile in such situations. Quote
jr231 Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 If there's one thing I've found. There's no reasoning with bowfisherman. @Fisher-O-men 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 14, 2016 Global Moderator Posted September 14, 2016 Grass carp do more harm than good. They spread the weeds more than control them and do very little to control the moss that most people buy them for. 1 Quote

That introduction took care of the abundant submerged aquatic vegetation and the "near double digit largemouth bass" that lived there. Now the reservoir has neither! Quote
WCWV Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 BadBass, by the what I can see in your picture, they kinda look like Gar. I've seen something similar in Summersville and Burnsville. I've got them in Burnsville. Quote
mrmacwvu1 Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 Yeah I actually think they are gar as well have seen similar to that around parkersburg area Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted September 16, 2016 Super User Posted September 16, 2016 My first thought was gar, but the tails looked forked. 1 Quote

Molay1292 Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Carp, as mentioned the Gar I am familiar with do not have forked tails. Quote
