Jig fishing help

Looking for some proven colors and size jigs. Any brand names you guys prefer? It's all new to me. Trying to figure out if I want to use braid or flouro line for jig fishing. Also what lb test line in both do you guys prefer? Thanks a bunch! LEW!

If you are just starting out fishing jigs I would suggest an arky head as it does a little of everything. Siebert Outdoors offers one:

Start with a few 1/4 ounce and a few 3/8th ounce. Smaller jigs generally generate more bites which helps build confidence. I am partial to Netbait Paca Craws as trailers. If I was forced to carry just two color combinations I would go with "black/blue" and "green pumpkin".

3/8oz brush jig from @Siebert Outdoors will do just about everything well... You can pitch it in timber or grass and bottom bounce it. You can swim it if you want to do that.  

Here's the last order I placed with them if you want some ideas. It's my third order of jigs from that company, and I doubt I'll order anywhere else.

Depends on your water color: my only luck on a jig came from a blue/black Strike King football jig when I was 13. I really prefer other lures. Maybe I need to start throwing them more.

There are tons of different jigs but 90% of what I use are arkie heads for all around use and footballs for dragging deep structure. There are lots of specialty heads but I can use an arkie for skipping, flipping and pitching, casting, and swimming. For swimming in grass I prefer a more pointed head style though. I have lots of colors but black blue and variations of green pumpkin are really pretty much all I ever throw

Do you currently fish Texas rigged soft plastics with a bullet weight? I ask the question because they are very similar and can use the same tackle. The reason Insuggested reading the long jig question thread is because it saves me time and effort so I don't have to cover the same material over again.

Jig fishing starts with the tackle used, the rod should be MH or H strong enough to set the hook, feel the strikes and needs to be able to control the bass. Line is a personal choice, several types work. Reels, bait casting is preferred by most jig anglers.

Well, as far as colors go I use three primary colors and variations of the like; green, brown and black. Usually in that order. As far as variations go I will usually add purple to the  green or brown jigs. I usually a co-poly line and usually 12 lb. test. Usually a 3/8th or 1/2 oz jig. I go up or down in line weight if I go up or down in jig size.
