Buying reel from Ebay?

Would any of you guys buy reels from Ebay or Amazon third party?

I think Im gonna order either Shimano Curado or Scorpion 70HG.. In process of shopping around, I found the one from eBay and amazon(Third party) is cheaper than any retailers or Japan tackle. On Amazon it list Scorpion 70HG as Daiwa 16 Scorpion ?.

What do you guy think? is there such thing like fake shimano reel? I also found out that reel ship from Asian does not have reel oil in the box.(curado 70hg and chronarch 50e).

I have never ordered a reel from Ebay. Like anything else there are always scammers. Make sure the seller has a high rating like a 99.5% and you should be ok. Sometimes things get listed wrong by leaving out a word, misspelling one, or putting the wrong one in which appears to be the case here. This generally means that not all search results are going be shown.

If the pictures show the box and the reel I don't think you are getting a fake. Just read the description so you know what you are getting. There are always good deals to be had on the auction sites and this may be the case here.

I've purchased plenty of reels using eBay or other sites. Buy from a good seller and you have nothing to worry about.  A lot of reels from overseas don't come with the oil because it's sometimes considered to be a contaminant.

Purchased my last 2 reels from eBay. Just like shopping for the correct reel you have to be aware of the details when shopping a auction site. Stick with great reputation sellers use a payment method that gives you some sense of security and shop its really that simple.

Yeah my last curado 70hg I got it from ebay as well but at first I feel like it not as smooth / free spin as it could be compare to unboxing of other curado/scorpion 70. I am also afraid that this reel would be a B grade reel with some mark or scratch that you cant see. That why seller on ebay get them cheaper. So far I dont have problem with the reel and it seems to be smoother cast better.

I've bought multiple reels on eBay with absolutely no issues. Just make sure as the others have said that the seller has at least 95% positive feedback and you should be fine.

I've purchased almost all of my reels from eBay. My local tackle shop doesn't carry the brand I like, and the price comparison to big outdoor retailers isn't even close. 

I look first at the seller's rating - nothing under 99.5% @ 1000+ reviews for me

Additionally I try to stay domestic, I've purchased overseas but only very reputable sellers - Otto's Tackle World is one I like for Shimano - they actually have a brick and mortar store, but also sell on eBay. 

Then check for the obvious things, misspellings, obvious rip off prices (too good to be true).

If all else fails, contact the seller, inquire with some specific questions - if the response is detailed, accurate, and thorough chances are you've got someone who's legit. 

Then as a last resort, if you get it and it's a knockoff, hopefully you purchased with PayPal, and you can initiate a complaint and get your money back.

I buy most of my gear on ebay, just do your homework and you shouldn't have any issues

I buy from eBay and forums all the time and I've rarely had an issue and when I have had one, it's always been resolved

Another satisfied ebay customer here.  Just check the seller's feedback, as others have said, and pay through Paypal.  If something goes wrongs or it arrives broken, or even if you never receive it, you should be covered.

I got my 70HG on eBay.. won the auction and couldn't say no to the price. Love the reel so far!

Paypal is heavily heavily weighted to protect buyers, so much so that a lot of sellers will not use them anymore due to being scammed by fraudulent buyers.   I just recently had an issue with some discount tackle storefront and PP resolved it in my favor in like two days after a week or two of trying to get a hold of the vendor.

Yes, I buy a lot of my stuff through eBay. I always go through and rebuild each reel, though, and don't ever expect to be able to go right out and fish any reel, used or new.

Disclaimer: this is only my experience

I bought 2 reels used off Ebay from a seller with a good rating and it kinda bit me in both cases. A lot of people will trade in their one or two season old reel at a mom and pop shop and the shop will move them on Ebay for $50 bucks or so. They'll make claims like "everything seems in fine working order" or "just a little boat rash" when in fact they've never used the reel and have no idea what might be wrong with it. But I sent one to BPS rod and reel repair and they fixed it for the minimum so now I have a $50 Johnny Morris reel that works like a champ. Now it's my #2 reel. That's the thing about reels. Most of the time it's cheap little worn out parts or maybe a tiny piece is missing. The one I sent to be fixed was missing the little retaining spring inside the cast control knob.Somebody tried to work on it, lost the part and traded it in.

But I did buy a new Lew's off Amazon. Hey, new is new.
