I've been looking around for one of these reels for months now and I just don't know what websites to trust or where to get one that's not super expensive like the antares. Anyone out there that has had good experience with a company selling these reels?

I've had great experiences with Japan lure shop and Japan tackle.  I'm always shocked by how fast I get my orders from Japan.

Lately ive seen a lot of threads asking about dc reels. Recent craze? Did i miss something?

Crazes come and go. There are quite a few topics that get repeatedly brought up and right now this just happens to be one of them. No different than the people that think their is some magical or best reel under a certain a price point or a rod that is sensitive under $150 etc...

Simply put things don't really change it is just people don't put in the time to research them. Just about every topic you can think of has been covered in great length on here or other sites. Some material has been made stickied at the top of the page but obviously not all topics can be.

As far as where you can buy a DC reel. You can buy one from a reputable Ebay seller, Japan Lure Shop, Digitaka, or any other valid vendor that has them in stock. Prices are not really all that great right now so some of the pretty awesome prices we paid a 6 months to a year ago aren't there...

I was just curious because i had not heard of dc reels before a couple weeks ago. I dont know much about jdm stuff or whatever. Then suddenly started hearing about them. I thought maybe some new models came out or something. Was not trying to be rude to op if thats what you think. It was serious question. Just like with favorite rods,i had never heard of them before and these last couple weeks i hear about them alot

DC reels have been out for quite some time. The Antares DC was recently redone in 2016 but is a premier retail with a sticker price near $600. The Metanium DC was brought into the picture in 2015 I believe. The Exsence DC was a reel that has been out for a good 3 or 4 years. So you may not hear a lot about them due to price or the fact they are typically JDM only.

TT reviewed the Calcutta DC, a USDM model, in March 2004.  Calais DC was a USDM model that was available starting around 2006/2007. So, it's been 10-12 years that DC reel models have been available on the US domestic market. However, as kickerfish1 mentioned, they might not have been on most folks radar due to being a bit "spendy"...

There are lots of good sites. I've used jpangler, japan tackle, digitaka, plat, and ichiban tackle. If they are too high look at some used ones on ichiban or tackleberry. You have to find someone in japan to actually get the reel and ship to you off tackleberry but most of these shops will do it if you ask. Yahoo japan also has good stuff but it is like ebay here. It's several buyers and sellers so buy at your own risk. The only problems i ever hear of are with customs fees and delays on rods and the occasional bad packing job resulting in a break

A ton of DC reels (and other JDM reels in general) were sold earlier this year and at the end of last year when the exchange rate was heavily in our favor...That's probably why you see them coming up more now, more in circulation over here in the USA.
