DuckettDude Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 Do u guys think I use this rod for 1/8-1/4 Texas rigs 1 Quote
timsford Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 Is it a bait casting or spinning rod? If it's a spinning rod then most definitely but most bait casting rods rated medium are a little too stiff for 1/8 to load and cast well unless you are using a bulky plastic. A lot of it depends on the reel too. Some are designed for lighter stuff, but most baitcasting reels aren't going to do well under 1/4 oz Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted September 10, 2016 Super User Posted September 10, 2016 Something like t-rigged1/8 weighted worm will work with Medium Smoke casting rod. Ive thrown 1/8 bitsy minnows with mine and 1/20 TRD ned rigs. Quote
DuckettDude Posted September 10, 2016 Author Posted September 10, 2016 Ok, but is a casting rod and the reel throws weightless plastics but I didn't know if it had enough power for Texas rigs around docks and rip rap Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted September 10, 2016 Super User Posted September 10, 2016 It will work for shooting docks too. Got this one from the dock in background Quote
DuckettDude Posted September 10, 2016 Author Posted September 10, 2016 Yea I have it paired with a duckett 320 casting reel and I think it will do good for pop r's and small Texas rigs along with weightless senkos, do u think it would do good with brush piles? And also what line would you recommend That is a good fish wish I would of had 5 of those in live well today at one of my tournaments Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted September 11, 2016 Super User Posted September 11, 2016 I have a couple M/F smokes use braid and fluorocarbon. Ive used Sunline Sniper Fc in 10-12-16 pound test and like the 16# the most. Havent tried any other brand fc. For braid I use a number of brands Smackdown, power pro super8slick, gamma torque are my most used this year. With that reel you have the balance of the rod/reel is very good, wouldnt you say, feels good in hand. Very light and balanced makes for a great combination. Quote
DuckettDude Posted September 12, 2016 Author Posted September 12, 2016 Yes it does make a good combo I appreciate the advice a lot it helps me out in my tournaments!!! tight lines, and big bites!!!! Quote
