@Steveo-1969 for a no brainer ... SK is behind.. I'm pretty sure they offer hard baits as well.. nobody talks about those tho..

Wrong, a search using the word "arashi" turns up ten pages worth of threads.

@J Francho I thought storm made the arashi.. regardless... if you look at all the threads of everyones "best lure for summer " or "best big bass baits" I haven't come across one person recommend a Yamamoto hardbait.

Isn't the "Arashi" line of hardbaits made by Storm? (which is part of Rapala?)  Not sure how Arashi is related to GYCB?

Oh crap, my mistake! Sorry!

(see mods aren't always all knowing, lol)

These are the hard baits - there was quite a bit of buzz when they came out.

When they came out... that's all I was saying is I don't hear much talk about em. Go through the latest threads.. not one post in who knows how many directed at the GY hardbaits.. and I NEVER see recommendations .

So quick to jump on my post. With "WRONG" .

I love GYCB Senkos. I almost never by SK stick baits.

However, I do not buy any other baits from GYCB aside from Senkos. SK has a pretty good lineup of cranks and spinners, not to mention all of the Rage Tail lineup. So even though I would really, really miss those Senkos, I have to go with Strike King here for the overall.

Of the two it is SK for me. I hate fishing senko style baits, too slow of a presentation for me. The only GYCB bait I really like is the swim senko. As for SK, I really like the RES and the rage menace is a nice bait. I really have had good luck with their spinnerbaits, I think over 90% of what I own is SK. Realistically though for plastics and hard baits I have other options I reach for first.

If I understand the question correctly, I think it's clear the answer 'should be' Strike King.

As I've said elsewhere, I'm sure there are days when the bass will eat a Green Pumpkin GYCB Senko and *not* eat an identically-presented, Green Pumpkin Shim-e-stik from Strike King.  But, those days are rare.  I think it's FAR more common to have the days where they won't bite a worm but WILL bite a buzzbait or crank or spinner or [insert any number of other things].

SK makes good versions of all those other things along with good, wide-ranging soft plastics.  So, if I had to choose just one company for the rest of my life, SK would win over GYCB.

If I could only choose x-number of BAITS, however, the answer might be different... Soft plastics would be the one thing I wouldn't want to have to live without, and GYCBs just catch fish seemingly more consistently for me.

Since you kind of started it, what would be cool is to do a tourney type bracket and see what brand wins the popularity contest on the boards. The only issue with this matchup is it is like a 1 and 2 seed pairing.

GYCB all the way. 4" and 5" Senko, 4" Fat Ika, and 3", 4", 5" single tail grub comprise half my soft bait fishing.

Jackall Crosstail shad, Flickshake worm and Cover Craw make up the other half.

I haven't used a GYCB product in quite a few years now................my boat is loaded with SK stuff (as well as Berkley, Storm, Booyah and Yum stuff)

SK has some Elastech baits, exactly the same as Zman.

Yamamoto doesn't make a beaver, so it's an easy decision for me. The Senko is the only bait I might miss a little, but the ocho would probably make me forget about it.

I don't fish hard baits too often, so GYCB wins for the senko and flapping hog.

SK - crankbaits, jigs, spinnerbaits, buzz baits. Plastics = Zoom.

Gycb has undeniable awesome soft plastics.. I've never bought a pack of any style of their plastics and not caught fish with them. My only problem is the 8 dollar price tag.. it's the megabass/lucky craft of soft plastics. . I'm with ya on that one.. zoom makes up most of my plastics. Cheap and reliable. I find em in discount bins for 2/3 dollars a pack. And they're generous with the portions I think the last bag of trick worms I bought from zoom was a 20 pack for 4 bucks..

GYB when overstock has them on sale for crazy Cheap....Same with SK....Only buy them on sale, and when I find them, I but alot and then use them often. I get by with other brands just fine when I don't have either, but I have enough stocked up where I can always find the few of each line I really like.....

I would never pay $8 for a pack of senkos...Just can't do it....Same with Rage stuff. I wait until I see them for half off or if some color is marked down, SK doesn't really make any bad colors if that makes sense. I can fish any color they make and be confident.

Strike King gets my vote...Better selection, Priced better, make different lines of lures for different price ranges, plus they make the Zero and Elaztach line so I can still fish some Elaztach stuff.

Only bait SK is missing is a Spider Grub? But I could go without the spider grub if I had too. GYB now has spinnerbaits, Hardbaits but they all end up in clearance racks for some reason. Not sure why, they look good? I guess it is hard to get $7 for a Popper when a bag of Grubs is $8. I just feel the GYB hardbaits are designed to catch Fisherman first (All companies do this but I never think of GYB when thinking about lures).

Wasn't Ned's favorite bait the no longer made 3" Yum Dinger on a Gopher Jighead? beetle, Ho Daddy, and other ringed baits? I believe He started using the Elaztach only after trying the Zero line from SK after they were showed to him. He preferred them since the system was based on frugal bass fishing as much as it was for the "Floating Properties"

I read an article where he says over and over the more fish you catch on a Zinker, the better they become and you can get to 100 Bass per day on 1 worm since it is 2 baits after being cut.

A bait with Rings will "float" as well, same with salted baits after soaked a bit. I am cool with Z-Mac "creating" the NED RIG, but a Jigworm is a Jig worm, just depends on how you fish it, and type of Jig. Charlie Brewer would argue a Slider Style Jighead works better.

How much is crazy cheap? I usually find the rage tails for about 5 a pack..still kind of expensive. But their chunk is my favorite by far for a small jig spring through summer.  I haven't tried them all yet . But every one I have tried caught fish. My favorite over all is to Texas rig the craw. They're hard to find ! DSG is the only place around me that sells them. And they only have the craw and structure bug. I had to order the other ones I've tried. GYCB on the other hand. Is everywhere around me. And the DSG section of Yamamoto products is pretty decent.  But overall , too expensive!!!

Overstock has had sales in the past where almost all GYB products are 1.99-3.99 per bag. Usually they never sell the flipping baits cheap, or they are the Kinami version, recently they had the Kinami Psycho dads in the best colors for .99 per bag of 5...

I find the rage Tail baits on clearance at times at Dicks, and we also have Shops that will get in damaged bags, older stock,or just an assortment of plastic baits in bags that get put in bins for 1.99 per bag....Usually it is all the stuff from a local small shop that has gone out of business, so it usually has the best colors and styles of baits. The Rage stuff is hard to find on sale although certain colors will go on sale at times, rarely advertised, but Dick's does a thing with numbers on the end so if it ends in a .93, .47 etc you can get lucky. I recently found some Rage Cut'r Worms in 2 good colors for $3,50 a bag? I have noticed that many small tackle shops have gone under recently due to Amazon and competition, so local overstock suppliers will have nice lures for really cheap prices. Most owners are Saltwater guys in my area so they chuck Rage baits in with Mister Twister and consider it the same....

I can buy anything strike king makes from other brands and be fine but no other worm works as well as a green pumpkin senko.
