jr231 Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 If you had to choose between all strike king (their whole lineup ) vs GYCB which would you choose ? Meaning never using senkos, ikas etc or never using strike kings plastics or ur KVD square bills. And whatever else both companies have to offer..thankfully we don't have to pick just one.. I'm just wondering which you would rely on most. Im pickin GY Quote
Onvacation Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 strike King all the way for me. But I would pick ZMan over SK if you asked. 2 Quote
jr231 Posted September 9, 2016 Author Posted September 9, 2016 I'm not picking strike king for their hardbaits. (I don't even use their cranks) But I do like the rage tails.. and use their spinner baits .. and their jigs are good for the price. Honestly it was hard because I use the senkos (of various sizes) and love their double tail hula grubs. And their hula swimmer.. but if I had to rely on just one of these manufacturers . It would definitely be strike king. I'll probably catch come slack over this.. but the "Ned rig" has been being fished for a long time.. im a new member . But know for a fact that a worm on a jig head has been around long before zman . I'm not denying it's effectiveness I just refuse to call it a Ned rig. Lol 7 minutes ago, Raul said: Zoom and Yum Raul you've been a member of this forum for a long time.. I've read many of your posts and many are very informative . I knew there would be responses like yours . Lol. But that wasn't the question. Honestly. I have more zoom plastics than any other. Because the price is perfect and they flat out catch fish. Nobody can argue that. 2 Quote
Molay1292 Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 I don't think it would effect my fishing much if they both were to go out of business. I do use a few of the Rage baits so I will go that way. 1 Quote

In the 70's, at least where I lived, we called it the, "my uncle gave me these small jig heads he doesn't use and all of his ripped up worms" rig. ZMan has done a good job of marketing the rig, but their Elaztech plastic is the real jewel to me, whether it's a TRD, hula stickz or whatever. Chatter baits are pretty nice as well. ZMan is probably the reason I get irritated by Senkos so much. I catch a lot of fish on Elaztech baits and they last forever. Senkos fall apart when you look at them. My Yum Dingers last well, my Zoom brush hogs last, even my Biospawn worms outlast Senkos. And all of them are cheaper. 1 Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted September 9, 2016 Super User Posted September 9, 2016 GYCB and not even close. Id say 60% of my fishing time is with GY products- 35% Keitech and 5% other. Quote
JigMaster4 Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 I only use netbait and the berkley havoc line nowadays. But 95% of the time it is Netbait. 1 Quote
timsford Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 I use both but if I had to pick 1 it would be yamamoto because of the senko, ika, and skirted double tail grubs. They both have lots of good products, but these 3 are some of my favorites when moneys on the line and I have to catch fish 2 Quote
j bab Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 I changed my mind after I voted. I'd choose SK because they have a good senko (ocho) in addition to their good hard baits. GY has some hard baits but not as good. 1 Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted September 9, 2016 Super User Posted September 9, 2016 I love Strike King products; their Rage lineup is KILLER and their spinnerbaits and crankbaits are fantastic as well. The Red Eye Shad is one of my favorite lures. 2 Quote
d-camarena Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 Gycb flapping hog, fat ika, senko, swimming senko are all staples in my tackle bag. Most of my tackle consists of these 2 brands Quote

Super User J Francho Posted September 9, 2016 Super User Posted September 9, 2016 Does that include Ragetail baits? Because I'll dump the Senkos and stick with those any day of the week. Quote

Yea!!! They are strike king right??. big part of my vote as well. Even tho I've caught more on senkos.. it's because I've been using them longer ! That rage chunk on my smaller jigs is killer.. they all are. The anaconda to the space monkey.. I can't call em high priced either because they are cheaper than gycb. So far 11/18 people don't agree. I'm guessing it is from all the senko lovers.. the ease of use. Quote
Super User Scott F Posted September 9, 2016 Super User Posted September 9, 2016 I don't know why, in any alternative universe, I would be forced to choose between these two companies, but I could easily survive with many other baits if either or both of these companies were to suddenly disappear. 1 Quote

Super User Scott F Posted September 9, 2016 Super User Posted September 9, 2016 I did not vote. I don't depend on either of these companies. I seldom use any CYCB or SK baits. Quote

Super User Scott F Posted September 9, 2016 Super User Posted September 9, 2016 For Yamamoto, its durability and price, and for SK, except for the Red Eye Shad, I just use other baits. I fish for smallmouth 90% of the time and there are only 4 or 5 baits that I need to catch nearly all of my fish and those are not Strike King baits. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted September 9, 2016 Super User Posted September 9, 2016 Strike King has a long history in tournament bass fishing, has changed ownership 3 or 4 times relying on sponsored pro names like Bill Dance, Denny Brauer, Hackney and KVD to carry on the brand name, products being mfr'd off shore. GYCB is owned and operated by Gary Yamamoto who develops most of his own products for both American and Japanese markets. I have used GYCB soft plastics far longer then Steve Parks/SK-Rage Tail soft plastics and prefer GYCB if soft plastics are the choice. SK with KVD hard baits and Hackney jigs adds another dimension that shifts the balance to SK, however I don't use those products simply because I make my jigs and have too many crankbaits already so GYCB gets the vote. Super User J Francho Posted September 9, 2016 Super User Posted September 9, 2016 Other than the Ocho, I don't use any of the "non Ragetail" baits. There are a few baits other than senko that I use, but I could live without GYCB. Quote
bunkerbstr Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 Strike King definitely has more options out there than GYCB which makes this a tough choice. However, there's been quite a few times that I've bought SK hard baits (crankbaits) in particular that were junk right out of the package. SK plastics are good though, no complaints. That said, I'd go with GYCB - made here and I don't recall any quality issues other than their plastics tear up faster than anything out there. BUT, they work, so who cares. GYCB gets my vote. Quote

Lol From what I have read from those much more knowledgeable on it than I, neither ZMan nor Ned rig aficionados claim that Zman invented the Ned rig. It is a system, not a particular bait (such as the TRD). Even ZMan's web site talks about Midwest Finesse and how their baits can be used within the system. The difference with Zman's baits and a worm on a jig head is the material. Comparing Elasticel with the plastics used on other worms is like comparing monofilament to fluorocarbon. While they could be interchanged, the characteristics of each lend them to specific uses that make them more effective than the other in particular situations. Quote
