Kistler KLX vs Dobyns Champion

Interested in purchasing a new jig rod. Looking at either the Dobyns Champ XP 744 or a Kistler KLX 7'3" MH for 3/8 - 1/2 jigs in light cover. Not looking on anything hesver or lighter, just opnions on each rods balance, sensitivity, and performance. Thanks in advance.

I think sensitivity is over used, but the klx and helium 3 both feel more sensitive in my hands. All 3 balance well in the lengths I've tried, and I think the Kistlers are a little lighter, but that may just be me. I also like that the Kistlers are made in the us on us made blanks(nfc). The Dobyns is also a nice rod, but I personally prefer the kistlers

This is where personal preference is going to play a huge role. The XP744 is my most recent purchase and I have two outings with it so far.  The balance is great with my Daiwa Zillon 100HS. Sensitivity with florocarbon is pretty darn good. When I drag a 1/2 football jig, I can count the rocks. A couple of issues to consider are, Full handle option?  That's a important to me and my preference. Champions no longer employ Kigan guides and are now Fuji.  I think this was the result of customer input. Finally, look at warranty options.  The last Kistler I owned had a blank made by Lamiglas so it's been awhile.  I have about six years of experience with Dobyns products now and like them and the service is impressive.  The Kistler might be the rod for you however.  You will do well I think which ever you finally select.

As stated above, Dobyn's really does have impressive customer service. Now I have never fished the KLX, but I will give you my $0.02 on the Dobyn's. I've got the DX745c and I wish I had the DX744c, I could use a little bit lighter of a rod. But it is a very sensitive rod, I could never use anything less after fishing it. It is very light and balances well with my Lew's TProG. However, I dislike split grips, so for that alone I would opt for the Dobyn's.

I've converted nearly my whole arsenal to Kistler Rods. Soon, I'll be 100% Kistler. The KLX rods surprised me in how good they feel. For ultimate bottom techniques consider a Z-bone. Sign up for their email updates and watch for sales if you want a Z-bone. I have both a 4 MH and 5 H in 7'3" and I like the 5H a little more. I even use it for weightless 6-inch Senkos.
