bassin is addicting Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 I have a couple of the 90 size.....just bought the 130 size. it seems the hooks are almost too big. especially for smallmouth (which is where I'm going to be using it, on St, Clair next week) what are your guys thoughts on downsizing the hooks for smallies? thanks... YoTone Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 never thought about it because ive caught dinks on the 130. Quote
trupp30 Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 I have a 130 and have kept the hooks, as is. I have caught smallies without any issues. Good luck on St. Clair Quote
KenP Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 The hooks are premium, I think are 4x so you could get a lighter gauge hook. I just started using it tonight and can't figure out if the bass are dumb and can't hit it right or I'm not setting the hook hard enough. Landed one small lmb an he fell off and flopped into a hole I had to get him out of.. Karma Quote
Last_Cast Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 bought 2 yesterday, never used them before. Very excited Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted September 8, 2016 Super User Posted September 8, 2016 The original ones has pretty terrible hooks, the newer ones have much beefier hooks but the hook points still don't seem that great. Hooked one fish with them and 2 of the 3 points rolled. I switched them out to st-56's. Quote
bassin is addicting Posted September 8, 2016 Author Posted September 8, 2016 The quality seems ok. Just seem a bit too big ideally for smallmouth. ? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 10, 2016 Global Moderator Posted September 10, 2016 I catch smallies on the big hooks on my Deps 175s, they'll be fine. I'm not sure what the hooks on the 130s are now, but when I bought mine I switched them to #2 4X EWG hooks and the smallies have had no issues with them. Quote
