ToadTugger01 Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 Hi guys, I Recently returned a shimano sahara bc it wasn't smooth and felt real rickety. Will I be disappointed with a President? I've heard good from friends but they have older models and they are made from cheaper materials now i think. Just looking for a cheaper reel to keep around that I can beat up a bit. Thanks, Jeff. venom Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 I think they are pretty comparable. President has the history, Revros is newer so we will have to see how it holds up over time. Last 2 I have bought have been Revros but I've found some pretty good deals and they were cheaper Quote

I own many different Pflueger spinning reels and have always pushed them as the best value. I am not so sure any longer, the Revros and RG-AB are both very nice for the money and certainly give Pflueger a run for the best value. I just wanted to add that I am still a huge Pflueger fan and will continue to use their reels. Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted September 7, 2016 Super User Posted September 7, 2016 Between myself and my wife we fish around 7 of them. Some are over 10 years old and some are less than 2 years old. I spool them 1/2 way up with 14 pound Stren Original mono for backing and finish it up with 14 pound Berkley original FireLine in 14 pound test (almost the same size as 8 pound mono). To this I tie on a leader made of P Line CXX moss green in 10 pound test.. It breaks around 20 pound test. I use it to fish for panfish, bass, stripers, and often we catch catfish up to 20 pounds while chasing the stripers. These reels cost $60 and just perform great. I have never had to have one repaired. Quote

Turkey sandwich Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 I've never dropped big money on a spinning reel, so I can't compare it to $200 reels. However, unless I have a very good reason to drop $200 on a Shimano, I'm extremely happy with my Presidents. They're way better than a sub $100 should be and I can't recommend them enough. If I have a $300 budget for a spinning combo, I'm spending $250 on the rod and $50 on the President. Quote

I bring a couple of setups when I go fishing and never leave home without a President or Trion with me. I hope mine last forever as both my President and my rear drag Trion have the rosewood handle knobs that I miss on the newer Pfluegers. They even came with the felt bag and spare spools that are a thing of the past. Quote

Very smooth and enjoyable reels to fish with. Quote
