I have a question about G-Loomis Rods. I am looking in to getting one and I was wondering why the e6x rod price is so much lower and if it is still a good rod.

Solid rods and nothing wrong with them.  However if you want to experience what G Loomis is really all about I would say that you should try the IMX and up rods if possible.

If you are looking for a rod for a certain technique or just an all around rod don't hesitate to ask questions.  Many people here very familar with the G Loomis family of rods.

Mark up and economies of scale. Sell a lot at a small mark up or sell a few with a higher mark up.

I think a st criox avid is way better than any Rod under a imx by far, and j liked my avid's more than my imx's

I think the E6X is a very good rod for less than $200. Not grossly expensive but still has a high end feel to it

E6x rod isn't bad, but there are so many other rods in that price range that are much better. Check out the Dobyns line of rods or even Kistler.

I have a whole bunch of Loomis rods (SJR843, 843, 700 all in GL3, TSR ultralight rod, 3 piece Escape Travel and my newest the E6X MBR843 baitcaster)

I love the E6X it feels the same as my GL3 rods and it was cheaper (although much newer) technology.

in my hands, the GL3s and the St. Croix Avid that I own feel almost the same, and the E6X feels the same as both of those.

I think you will love the E6X. just because it is cheaper than their other offerings doesn't mean it sucks.

there is a reason the GL2s aren't even on the loomis website anymore for bass. The E6X are selling so well I gather they eliminated them all together.

I will 2nd this, as I think the Avid (or AvidX) is a better rod in that price range. I don't see the value in Loomis for anything below the IMX. As for the E6X, I would not purchase one just based on the guides if nothing else. For $200 I expect a little more.

I have an Avid X and will likely be buying several more.  They look and feel like much more expensive rods and really are great to fish.  Everybody has their own preferences, and individual taste has its place, but you're hard pressed to find a better Rod than an Avid/Avid X in the $200 range.

For that price there are a lot of really nice rods. Go put a Dobyns Sierra  or Irod Genesis II rod or an Avid or Avid X both from St Croix. I own and love 7 G Loomis rods from IM6s ( going way back) to GL2 and GL3 and a pair of IMXs. I would stack my older rods up to anything that was out there back then. Since the merger with Shimano I can see the choices in components have been downgraded.  I even had to have a custom rod builder strip the handle and seat on a new IMX rod because the plastic reel locking nut kept backing off.  Since the rod was not broken yet, I did not think they would do anything about it and if they did they are still using the same cheap plastic across the line anyway.  I love the feel of the rod after we installed a high quality American Tackle reel seat and a set of Winn Grips ( a short foregrip and a split grip setup) Not trying to start a war but that was my experience. I think G Loomis has been caught and surpassed in the sub $300 rod marketplace. I am sure I have purchased my last one.

I'll throw my two cents in.....

When I decided to purchase my latest rod, it was a decision for me between an E6X and the Shimano Zodias. I tried a couple out, and while the E6X is no slouch...for the price - solely focusing on features/quality for the price - the Zodias won hands down and has easily become my favorite casting rod.

one thing that drew me to the E6X (and would to the avid rods too) is that they are full cork handles. no EVA foam. some like it, some hate it. but it is getting harder and harder to find full cork traditional handles out there. I hate the feel of eva and much prefer cork.

I don't know where the Loomis E6X rods are being assembled? Every E6X rod that I have picked up to touch and feel had guides set on the blank sideways to the rods spline resulting in blank rolling to one side, a basic rod building error.

Before spending over $300 for a off the self rod look into DVT or ALX to make you a custom rod using state of the art components.

hmm. the E6X are assembled in the USA. at least mine says Washington on it. if I recall. weird.
