Lake Orange, VA

Hello all,

I've been out to Lake Orange 4 separate times, 3 fishing from the bank, and the 4th I took my boat out. All 4 times i've goose egg'd. Everyone I talk to before leaving usually says they have trouble catching fish there too. Is it just bad luck, or are the fish just not biting? I've tried everything except live bait. I've tried everything from finesse fishing to carolina rigging and everything in between.

When I fish there (been a few years), I just fish the actual attractors or near them. Also the trees in the part of the lake past the dam ( those are submerged). No problem catching bass there.

This time of year you have to fish the depth that is at top of the thermocline.

I did find one attractor and fished it for a while but couldnt get anything. I fished near the dam with a weighted texas rig with different soft plastics, and still didnt get anything. I may have to get out there early and try my hand at some deep diving crankbaits.

The one and only time I have been there this year, I believe in July. I caught a couple in the submerged grass bed in the shallow side (opposite dam). Used a june bug 10" ol' monster worm almost swimming it through the grass. There was something holding them in a particular spot and caught 3, but the wind pushed me off or they turned off and I couldn't find the spot again. Wish I had GPS, the grass is pretty expansive and hard to find the edges.  

I fished the crud out of the attractors and couldn't get a bite. got 2 pickerel off the dam. I will probably go back sometime this fall, seems like the other fishermen had pretty good etiquette. In this area I look for that almost more than fish.

I agree. Everyone there did have great etiquette. I didnt have time to go to the shallow side on my last visit. I fished near the boat lauch in that mixed vegetation with a Gambler burner craw and didnt even get a nibble.

Fish for schooling bass chasing shad on the surface, I love doing that there in the summer.

It's almost impossible to catch the big ones unless you are there in March or April. Smart, pressured bass with TONS of food to eat.
