BassnChris Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 The 2017 BassResource Road Trip to Pickwick Lake. 4/26/17 - 5/1/17 As with all previous Road Trips, everyone is invited, novice or pro. You do not need a boat to attend. There are always seats available. Further, women are encouraged to attend with their significant other, or you are welcome to attend alone. Ladies are always treated as ladies on these trips. The only difference between these and previous Road Trips is that they are now "unofficial." Glenn and Keri may or may not attend. There will be no sponsor giveaways, nor Pro speakers. Regardless, it will be the annual opportunity for many of us regular attendees to renew old friendships and, most importantly to establish new ones. I would appreciate your comments before I finalize any plans. Pickwick Lake - Arrive Wednesday April 26th depart Monday May 1st. You are responsible for your room reservation We will be staying at the Pickwick Landing State Park. Call 731-689-3135 to make reservations. You MUST mention you are with the Bass Resource group in order to get the group discount. You do not have to book it for the entire week, you can go longer or shorter. Just understand we cannot guarantee availability if you want to stay outside the event dates. http://tnstateparks.com/parks/inn/inn-at-pickwick-landing You must make your reservation by February 28th 2017. Room availability cannot be guaranteed after February 28th. Note that a $120 deposit is required. If you need any help with your room reservation, send a PM to BassnChris with a phone number where you can be reached. The cabins are $580 plus taxes for 5 night stay and comfortably sleep 4 persons. Breaks down like this: Wed-Thu $110/day plus taxes Fri-Sat $125/day plus taxes Sun $110/day plus taxes Common Questions Who is invited? Everyone! How does fishing work during the trip? Are we all on our own, do members pair up? Share patterns? The lake is pretty big. Do we all launch at the same time in the morning as a group or everyone do their own thing? To begin with, this is not a tournament. It's just a bunch of folks who enjoy the fishing and camaraderie. Everyone does their own thing when fishing. They launch when they want and where they want. As for pairings, every evening we do our best to pair everyone up for the next day. NO ONE is left standing on the bank. How does lodging work, do we tell you if we require a room? Do we get paired up for rooms with other members? It is the responsibility of each individual to arrange their own accommodations. We have blocked 6 cabins for BR members, but reservations must be made by you. The block will be removed March 1st, so unreserved cabins may not be available after that date. Stay active on the Road Trip forum and post from time to time that you are looking for a roommate. It always works out.Do i need to bring a boat? NO, you do not need a boat. Everyone is welcome, and everyone fishes! We hold random drawings (see schedule above) to pair boaters/non-boaters up. 1 Quote
CybrSlydr Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 Are there any links to threads from previous years meetups that I could peruse? Can you give a ballpark estimate on costs (lodging, licensing fees, etc) for the time frame? I assume lodging will be the most expensive part. Also, I see Pickwick is part of 3 different states - which state will this be in? Thanks! Quote
BassnChris Posted September 7, 2016 Author Posted September 7, 2016 Do search on Roadtrip. License fees vary by state.....Google fishing license for the state your interested in fishing. $40-50 probably. lodging varies depending on where we stay. usually averages $100-125/night.....sometimes more sometimes less. But that cost can be defrayed by sharing a room or cabin with others. We've usually stayed in Tennessee. After we get a head count I will be able to provide more accurate lodging cost. 1 Quote
bighed Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 Love this lake and the state park we stayed at a few years ago. I'll do my best to attend. Quote
Oufb90 Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 I believe we will make this one. It's a good prefishing tournament for the high school world championship also. Won't need lodging. Quote

Alabama license covers all the waters of Pickwick (above the dam), Wilson, Guntersville, and Wheeler. It includes Yellow creek to the bridge over the Tom Bigbee Waterway, Indian and Bear Creeks on the west side of Pickwick. An annual fishing license for Alabama is about forty bucks. A seven day license is less. The cabins can accommodate four or five anglers easily. Unless the rates have jumped, thirty five bucks per fisherman per night should cover the cabin rental. They have been building a new loop of cabins for more than two years, but aren't in any hurry to get them finished. The web site says they are in the planning stage, but last year all the new cabins were weather tight, but the interior partitions were still just stud walls. 2 Quote

OddChase Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 Would be nice to see some events later in the season as well. Possibly a fall roadtrip? Being an accountant, that time of the year tends to be a bit busy for me. Quote

The 5 years that I have been participating they have always been in early spring.....the first trips were 'official'......now they are 'unofficial' and we have just kept the original timing. Quote
Airman4754 Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 I was just offered a job in Huntsville, so if I take it I will be there. 1 Quote
coloradofire Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 I think I will try to make it there since I live in Memphis and bring my boat but will probably tent camp. 1 Quote
Pete-K Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 I'm in on this one. Sure is a long trip for me though. Its what 30 minutes. We will be camping below the dam or at the State park campground. But figure it will be below the dam. Pete 1 Quote

grampa1114 Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 This is the year I might just make it...Gonna hook up with Fishing Rhino and DinKy. Seems Charleston's closer than I thought. 1 Quote
rv8apilot Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 Just made my campground reservations, so I'm coming. I may or may not bring my boat. It would require two trips to pickwick each way since I can't tow my boat behind my bumper-pull camper. Maybe I could take it over the week before. Whatever, I'll work out the details later. 1 Quote
Airman4754 Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 I won't be able to make the whole trip and probably won't be in a cabin but I will be there with my boat for the Weekend portion of this. Anyone that wants to fish with me is welcome. I can fish three comfortably. Quote
CybrSlydr Posted December 15, 2016 Posted December 15, 2016 I really want to make this and bring my brother along. I might be able to swing the finances, but we'll have to see. (car is currently in the shop and I'm about 50% of the way towards paying off the $2k in work it needs...) Seriously considering arriving Friday morning/afternoon and leaving sunday night. Doesn't leave a whole lot of time for fishing, especially when we're looking at $375 for the cabin and $80 for licenses for my brother and I. Hmm... Quote

If just the two of you are sharing the cabin, you should see what the nightly rate is at the lodge. It might save you a few bucks. They start at about 75 dollars per night. That would save you 150 dollars provided the room meets your needs. 1 Quote
BassnChris Posted December 31, 2016 Author Posted December 31, 2016 2 months left to reserve cabin....after that the cabins will be released. Quote
Lunker plucker Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 My wife and I would love to attend this road trip we have a friend with a cabin 4 miles from the lodge and would stay there. My question is how would attendence and the logistics work if I'm not at the lodge. I'm new to bass resource so I'm a little green as to what all y'all do here. I really want to make this trip I'm no pro but an avid angler but have really only fished in Georgia and would love to go out with you guys. Any info you can provide me with would be greatly apprecieated. Quote
