This trip looks awesome and I may be able to make it... But it's one heck of a drive from PA.  Does anyone ever fly for these?  Anyone have experience flying 1 piece rods?

People have flown down for these trips.

Others will have to post as to the 1 piece rod question.

As of right now, my plan is to attend during the day with my dad and stay at our place a bit south of fin & feather.

However, I think I talked at least 2 (probably 4) of my friends into attending as well. They would all share one room at fin & feather. None have a boat. So I guess ideally they'd pair up and tag along with someone if there are people who don't mind fishing 3 from their boat. Idk how yall would work that out.

We have fished 3 people to a boat in the past......as far as I know....there has never been anyone left standing at the dock/bank that wanted to go out in a boat.

I fly all the way from upstate NY(Albany).   I fly into Louisiana, hit the BassPro for my license and then work my way down to Fin and Feather from there.   I have travel rods which I take with me (2 and 3 piece rods).   The 2 piece went as carry on.    The 3 pieces I took on the plane with me.   I didn't want the hassle of 1 piece rods.

1 - Case was expensive

2 - Rediculious overcharge.  One I avoided by going 2 piece.

3 - Don't trust baggage handlers.

This year I may forego the 2 piece rods and go all 3 piece avoiding the checked bag altogether.   We will see how I feel when I get closer. :)

Glad to see you coming back Felix.  I'm sure we could round up a few rods for the folks that fly in.  They would have to be better than the 3 piece or 2 piece ones.  I know I have a few at the camp there for emergencies.  Nothing great but a couple of falcon originals, a Powell worm rod, KVD cranking stick and a couple others.  I have a couple of spinning outfits too.  Been leaving them on the deck of the boat but no one will steal them.  I would think bring your reels and someone can hook you up with rods.  plus, I don't use half of the ones in the boat.

I'll sign up for one of the Roadtrip's just don't know which one yet. I've fished 2 of the Tennessee River impoundment's already..Kentucky/Barkley and of course Wilson at the 2014 trip but never fished Toledo Bend...Mmmmm.

I'll let you know.

You don't need to bring anything if you would like to fish with mine, I will have some variety for you to choose from.

You can also ship them to yourself.  I did that for a Florida trip and it worked great.

In his book, KVD said that color isn't as important to him,

as it is to other anglers.  BUT, in his book entitled "Bass Strategies",

Kevin states: "Red is a super color in Texas during the spring"  :)

Guys and gals, I would love to be there, but I am scheduled for hip replacement surgery on March 6.  I doubt that I my rehab therapists would allow me anywhere near a boat in time for the J.Y. Classic.

My brother just retired and bought a RV that he is just dying to use. So, we have booked

a hook-up on the Fin & Feathers property, walking distance to the main office. We will be

down for the entire outing.

WOO-HOO!

As of 2/7/17 the lake level is at 168.9' which is said to be 3.10' low, historical data show 169' is normal.

Locate weather is mid-60s at night & upper 70s during the day, it's been a little windy!

Sent this to RW ;)

Expect pre-spawn - spawn

Fin & Feather located on Housen' Bayou which is centrally located on some of the best waters of the lake. Do some map study of Housen', Indian Mounds, & Six Mile.

I would target bank shallow out to 10-12'

Structure/cover: personal favorites creek channel coves & buck brush

Spinnerbaits, Rat-L-Traps, Texas Rigs, Jigs, Carolina Rigs, Crankbaits, pretty much any & everything! Finding the bass is paramount!

Spinnerbaits; white skirt double gold willowleaf

Lipless crankbaits; crawfish color

Regretfully, I'm out.  It appears I'm getting pulled back into a leadership position with work and sneaking away in March will be almost impossible.  I'm pretty unhappy about this, but I hope everyone else has a great time and crushes it on the lake.
