Does your boat have a motor?  How about a battery?  Does it have a fuse box?  Give us some more details about your boat and I'm sure the guys here will have you listening to some nice tunes while trying to catch a few bass.

One other thing that might help is the spec's for the boat. Most important one would be a weight limit!

Posted

12 ft i dont know what the weight limit is beacuse the person who gave it to mee does not knpw anthing about it i dont even know what kind of boat it is but i would like youe suggestion on how to make this boat amazing thankyou

There should be a plate on the boat somewhere (usually its silver and yellow with black letters)that tells you how many people, what the max HP rating the outboard can be and the weight limits.

Back in 97, I bought a 16' flat bottom jon boat. I added front and rear decks, bow mount trolling motor, lights, electronics, etc, so I do have a few ideas for ya. But the best thing you can do is figure out where you'll be fishing most of the time and draw up what works best for you! Then you can run wiring for what ever you need (electronics, lights, trolling motor, etc). It's ALOT easier doing it this way than after the deck/s are on!!!!!!!!  ;)

My front deck covers the front seat and the middle bench seat (about 8'). I added a supportabout half way between the two seats. I did that so the deck would be more stable as well as the added space for storage. Basically, the back half of that deck is hinged and I keep a paddle, extra life vests and a few other lighter things in there. My gas tank and batteries are in the back of the boat.

If you are going to add a deck and are going with plywood, I wouldn't recommend going over 1/2"! This will help keep the weight down.

One thing I did with my boat was make a control panel for all my electronics. From one location, I can turn on my front light, rear light, livewell areiator, bilage pump and either fish finder.

Your options are only as limited as your imagination! Hope this helps some though!

Sorry! Don't have any pics right now!  :-[  Right now, the carpet has been stripped off my decks and I'm geting ready for an early spring redsign of the front deck. I've been wanting to do this for a year or two now but have had other things that took priority over this redesign.

You may want to check out myjonboat.com. That site may help you along! Hope this helps!!!!

I've been in a few semi-V's like the one you've got, (12 footer).  One of the things to be cautious of is just how stable the boat is at rest. Anytime you add a casting deck you're raising the center of gravity when you're fishing out of it.  Some hulls are fine with it others become very tippy and can roll, excessively,  if someone in the boat shifts their weight to the outside edge. That rolling can be enough to toss another angler out of the boat if he's not aware.   Just something to think about.

Just some thoughts that might get you started.

One of my boats (my only boat for 25 years) is a 1965 13' aluminum semi-V.  I didn't completely trick it out but I did hook it up a little to make it more fishable.

The boat is so old that it didn't have a hull id/weight capacity/max HP plate either.  The state I live in won't let you register your boat with out one.  So there is a form they have you fill out stating the dimensions of your boat  (the form for PA is available on the PA Fish and Boat Commissioner web site).  You send it in then they send you back a plate bearing the weight capacity and max HP.  So I'd check with your state agency in charge of boating and registration to see if they can do the same.

Some one else made a great point about the loss in stability in that type of boat when you put in casting decks.  I avoided that problem in my boat by just cutting a sheet of marine plywood to fit in the bottom of the boat between the 2nd and 3rd seat.  I then used L shaped galvanized brackets to bolt it directly to the seats.   That way you don't have to put any holes in the hull.  It gives you about 3" of height and cleans up the floor so you aren't tripping over the ribbing/strafes in the hull.  That little platform made a huge difference in comfort and fishability.  I had some left over carpeting that I tacked on to the deck too for added comfort and sound proofing.  I can fish standing up even in rough water with no problem.

As for the trolling motor mount.  You can buy a special mount for the bow in BP or Cabelas.  I just left mine on the transom though and it's easy to use.  When I'm fishing I just run the motor in reverse so that the stern of the boat leads the way.  It is much easier to control this way.  The only time it is a problem is in high winds or choppy waves.  You'll get some water over the transom then it you are backing into the wind/waves.

It is a pretty handy set up everything is in arms reach.  I mounted a cheap graph to the 3rd seat where I can see it easily.  I also mounted a drinkholder/tray to the side of the hull.  It is great for holding a few lures, your drink and a bottle of fish attractant.

GOOD LUCK!

I would suggest decking from the middle seat to the front and a single pedestal on the rear seat. A floor for the middle area.

Estimated cost for project including seats, swivels and pedestals-$200-$225

This is the last boat I did.

Any questions, let me know, we will walk you through whatever you decide to do.

Good luck

Thankyou for your good ideas, i realy like the idea of putinf plywood and capeting on the floor to stand up, bi i was woundering if yo think it would be ok to fut wieght on the fiberglass seat, im not sure if they would hold, its there any other way to put this in

               Thankyou again
