cgs2004 Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 Anyone know of a simple devise that can tell me the water temp from my boat? I would figure that one that connects to the trolling motor would be easiest but I am open to suggestions. I don't want anything fancy, just something thats user friendly and tells the water temp! Yankee_Bassman Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 What about one of those digital thermometers that you can get at a cooking store? They have a probe on a long cable, and some have a magnet on the back...don't know if they read that low or not, but they're pretty cheap.... Quote
Cephkiller Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 MinnKota makes a small digital that runs on a AAA battery and has a cord with a small sensor that can be mounted anywhere you like. I saw them at Wal-Mart for $10. Quote

On my boat, I use the temp gauge on my Fishfinder. When I'm fishing from shore, I use a pool thermometer. Hope this helps! Quote
cgs2004 Posted February 26, 2006 Author Posted February 26, 2006 The Minn Kota one sounds like the type of thing I'm looking for but I do want to make sure it holds up. I guess for $10 I can just give it a try. Unfortunatly I've got a pretty old depth finder that doesn't have a water temp feature Quote

I don't use mine anymore, but it still works. (never bothered to take the little watch battery out of it) I had another one previous which I managed to mount to my dash. I never had a problem with the wires though. Quote
GobbleDog Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 I've heard that as a general rule of thumb, the water temperature is usually within a degree or two of the average daily high and low. I've never actually tested that theory, but it does seem about right. Quote
