Reel Guy Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Last time I was out on a small lake that I fish and normally do fairly well but it was windy and the water not choppy but moving. I didn't catch a fish nor even had a hit. So I came and read everything I could on the Bass Resource website about fishing on windy days. Went out today and very similar conditions and no fish after it got windy. Had three before it got windy. The lake does not allow boats and the wind comes nearly straight at you so positioning is a challenge. Any suggestions? It seems like they shut down when it gets windy. Another regular at the lake said he experienced the same thing. Not sure what to try next. Quote

Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted September 4, 2016 Super User Posted September 4, 2016 Ive had a lot of luck with 1/4oz jighead and 3.8" Keitech swing impact fats head winds of 20+mph 1 Quote
dwh4784 Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Top waters, most notably prop baits are my favorite in windy conditions. Spinner bait would be tied on also though. 1 Quote
Airman4754 Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Depending on the species of fish if it's 10ft or less depth I'll throw a 3/8oz lipless for spots and smallies and fish it about as fast as possible with a pause about every five seconds. I get most of my strikes right at the boat. 1 Quote
Reel Guy Posted September 5, 2016 Author Posted September 5, 2016 Heading back to the lake tomorrow but 2mph winds expected so shouldn't have any issues with the wind. As a new bass fisherman I have been successful with the worms, lizards and crawfish and sometimes forget I have other tackle to use! I may try the spinner baits tomorrow just to try them and try some other top water lures I have. Thanks everyone! Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted September 7, 2016 Super User Posted September 7, 2016 Try to fish on the side that the wind is hitting. Quote
