Hello everyone. Brand new at fishing and brand new at kayaking. Just got a tarpon 100 and a cheap rod and reel from bass pro shops and went to a local reservoir and caught some largemouth and smallmouth.  anyone know of any local ponds close to the modesto, CA area? we have large reservoirs here like Woodward, Modesto and Turlock but they're all hard to navigate on a kayak.  I don't come from a fishing family my folks never fished I'm learning as I go. by the way, very thankfull for the articles I have read here all very informative and extremely helpful. thanks.

Welcome aboard!

Your definitely in the right place to learn

As for your area, can't help, but there are some
here who have probably fished those spots who
will chime in.

Bass lake is currently very pool and should be good after the Labor Day holiday, may be a little too far south. There are a few bass lakes in the basin area, Eastman and Hensley that are also very low pool.

Lakes that are low pool have little power boat traffic do to very difficult to launch and smaller in size.

Omar, I also fish from a Tarpon 100. I live south of Fresno. You can go up north to the delta. You hit the local lakes but the delta in your back yard. I recommend the delta over any other spot. There are kayak fishing tournaments on the delta. Check your messages.

Welcome to the Forums Omar!  Woodward might be a good choice during the week, but can be busy during the summer with jet skis and boat traffic on the weekends. Caliyak's suggestion of the fishing the Delta may be just what you're looking for, not to mention there are some sloughs that a only kayak or float tube can access.  Maybe check out a bass club. The Modesto AmBASSadors come to mind.... Good fishing, JB

Tiki Lagun is a cool spot. Small Marina and not that crowded. Plus, a campsite if you want to stay overnight. A lot of flipping and pitching for the pigs. Also, learn the low and high tides. It took me awhile but I got it. Fish move up and down with the tides.
