Heading to Shelbyville Ill

Getting ready for my fall trip to Shelbyville Il. in the next week and going to make a run to BP to find some last min lures. I have a ton of Rapala Shad-raps exe but looking to try more rubber warms, tubes, jigs exe... I'd think water temps in the higher 70's, in the beginning of early Aug it was 77deg and had a heavy green tint but with fall now coming and with the rain we've been getting down south I'd say it's dropping. 

What would you try, why and how would you fish it? BTW I'm looking to catch anything that swims other than carp or turtles.

Hi,  where are you located?  I'm only about 40 minutes from Shelbyville. 

Although I tend to not fish there often,  so many pleasure boaters,  I know it can be some good fishing. 

If you're just interested in catching fish,  I've been told if you can locate them the hybrid bass there can make one heck of a trip. Look for big bait balls of shad, and try tossing some deep diving cranks. Its not uncommon when guys to get on schools of them to catch 100+ hybrids in a day. 

Also if you've never tried it before,  below the spillway, which turns into the Kaskaskia,  can be some very good musky and walleye fishing. 

 

I've pulled out several 40 inch musky working that bank down there.  You'll see them surface all day,  the trick is to get them to hit haha. 

I suggest working a buck tail.

Thanks for the suggestion, Picked up some new lures, and jigs and trailers.  I read about trolling in the prop wash with crank baits and muskie lures. Ive been told that muskie will fallow right behind boats going into coves looking for shad or other fish that get scattered. I also picked up Dipsey divers in the 3/0 ( smallest size) that dive to 25ft. Going to try and troll crank baits on the old river channel at 20ft.

I fish the Kaskaskia Arm, I start at the Coal Shaft Bridge Area where I launch my boat. At this location I then fish the Pipeline and Bridge Riprap on both sides of the River and both sides of where the bridge goes over the river. Go up the Kaskaskia Arm and fish the Small Coves and Main River Points. Try "BO" Wood Cove Area, and all of the boat launch areas. I fish 1/4 Oz. and 3/8 Oz. Football jigs tipped with "Live Bait". Good luck at Lake Shelbyville.

"This "Habitat Factor" is about as Solid a Pattern as can be. Typical of this type of Reservoir with "Standing Timber" It

makes up the majority of the "Fish-Holding Cover", thus it produces more fish. When you find "Wood along a Drop Off or

Ledge", the Second-most cited structure, then you have the best of both worlds. Try and find a lot of Rock. Lake Shelbyville

is very different than any other body of water in Illinois. There are a lot of Points and a lot of Rock on the Points. Along with

many Points and the Coves to with them are "Some Big Flats." When fishing on Shelbyville fishing a 1/4 Oz. and 3/8 Oz. Football Jig

tipped with a trailer, 3" or 4" Berkley Powerbait Chigger Craw in Black Blue Fleck, Green Pumpkin, Pumpkin Green Flake
