I broke 2 of them just casting, one I was just pulling on my jig in the left hand BARELY flexing the tip as im going to the next dock and it snapped. The other I was hung, trying to get it out and it snapped. My buddy, broke his the next week being hung too. Moral of the story is: St. Croix for life lol

I like the super spook jr with the knocker in it. I have one that has absolutely been through the ringer and I'm still catching fish on it. I don't use the super spook or regular spook because I just have never seen a difference there, and the knocker makes the jr really easy to throw long distances.

I will occasionally throw a zara puppy for finicky schooling fish, they are not hard to walk if you are fishing 10lb test or lighter.

If you have stained water the chugnspook or the one knocker spook could be a good option.  Will give them something to hear to help locate the bait, and the one knocker will be a different sound than the current rattling version you have.  Clear or stained water, I prefer bone or the g-finish colors (your local stores may not carry them).

I actually don't have a spook yet so I don't have a silent or rattling version yet. I do have a couple of Lucky Craft Sammy 100's that I recently got but haven't had a chance to fish yet but these will be my first ever spooks that I buy when I buy them.

If you just want to try one, I'd start with the Super Spook Jr. Great size that will get bit most everywhere. Another point that hasn't been made yet; if you're new to walking baits, the "knock" of the Spook Jr. will make learning a piece of cake. You have the sound reinforcement beside just the visual coordination -  remember the kid learning to fly fish with a metronome in "A River Runs Through It?" You can learn and get good at "walking the dog" with your eyes closed B)

Gotcha, I read your OP wrong.  Good luck when you get to fish them, let us know how it goes!

I have only tried a few walking baits, but the spook line-up has been by far the best producing.  If I could only pick one it would be a super spook junior with a loud knocking sound (every spook I've tried sounded different, shake them and listen for the loudest sound in store if possible) like T-9 and everythingthatswims said.  I mostly use them in the post spawn period and for schooling bass in the summer and fall.

Unless ya fishing for tight eyes!

The XT walks easily & is a great complement for the Saltwater Chug Bug

Postspawn, big grass flats where the grass is still under surface, throw those big boys & out fish your frog buddies!

I'd try the super spook junior in bone if I had to pick just one. But I use both sizes of super spooks, the original rattling spook, the chug n spook, swayback spook, and the puppy and I've caught fish on all of them. The super spook Jr in bone, RI barely legal vixen, the smaller strike king kvd bait, the sammy in all sizes, the skitterwalk, zip baits irony, and the lunker punker are the top water walkers I use regularly and catch fish on. The super spook jr, sammy, and irony have been producing the best this year. I really like walking baits and so do the river smallies and stripers this time of year

Usually it's just the hooks.  Saltwater baits have corrosion resistant coatings on the hooks.

So are the hooks still bad and should be replaced?

That's up to you.  The hooks work fine for me, but I prefer VMC Vanadium Inlines.  I also add a split ring at the hook hanger to free up hook movement. The Super and Super Jr. already have this mod in place.

Yeah, those are what I'm looking at.

It's hard to tell what you're looking at - there's like 12 different "spook" baits by Heddon.  Add the Chug'n Spook, and the One Knocker, and the list gets even longer.  There's really not much to discuss.  I have two Zara Spooks.  They're over decade old.  Did the hook mod, have literally caught hundreds of fish on each.  One is chrome/blue, and the other frog pattern.

I have most of them in different colors.  The spook with the prop works good. Again it's my 1-2-3 rip n pause presentation. A nice even rip three times then pause. If no action fish it slower with a longer pause.

I picked up a discounted producers orange colored spook. It's hot here.

I'm looking at the Super Spook and Super Spook Jr.

I'd get one of each, and learn to walk them.  That's all there is to it.

I have settled on the Sexy Dog Jr. - easy to walk , great action , good colors , good build quality and great overall value .

If you fish heavy braid on casting rods, the saltwater Spook Jr is often a buck at Walmart this time of year like all pradco lures.....I just picked up a ton of lures and they had the right colors.

I prefer saltwater hooks since I use the spooks on casting gear so I like the Xcalibur Tx3 Treble Hooks, but make sure they have split rings.

For spooks, Bone, Black Shore or black shiner, Chart, White and chart...I would say that covers it....Super Spook Jr is probably what I use most, but also the standard size one knocker and silent, I have never noticed a difference.

If I want a loud walking lure I use the Rebel T-10 T-20 with a lead rattle that is as loud as my expensive Walkers and I pick the Rebel over some $15 models 9/10 times since it just walks so easy like the spook.

Color is a confidence thing, Clear is good because you can color them with markers on the water. But clear is good because fish think it is a school of glass minnows or in stained water or clear, they can't tell the size of the lure. I use bigger lures in clear, and I seem to do better. I always add chart to the belly, just having that tint seems to help.

Bone colored spook Jr. was the best selling bait when I worked at a tackle shop for spooks. People like the saltwater spook Jr for $5. Chug bug was the second best selling walking bait. You only need maybe 3" of water above weeds which is why it is popular on Stick Marsh and in the south.
