Buying a new bow mount trolling motor for my 14 ft John Boat.

Which of the following should I buy (and why if you have time).

Motorguide Pro Series 46 lb thrust for $299

Minn Kota Edge 40 lb thrust for $319.

Thanks.....

I have a Minn Kota and have been pretty satisfied with it but if I were to buy a new one I would get a Motorguide.  Reason being, my Minn Kota is a 50lb. thrust, my uncle has a 46 lb. thrust Motorguide on a bigger boat than mine and his trolling motor is faster and runs longer than mine.  Still haven't figured that out but I will be buying a Motorguide next time I get a trolling motor.

I personally like Minn-Kotas better, but more thrust for less money is hard to beat.

That's my opinion as well.

I'd go with Motorguide.

Ive used them before and switched to Minnkota. I'm going back to Motorguide.

I've had both and have never really had a problem with either of them. I don't even really know why but I've always leaned toward Minn Kota for some reason. Maybe I was brainwashed by Jimmy Houston as a child or something. In this case I guess I would go with the Motorguide based on the thrust for the price argument.

Is the Minn Kota variable speed and the Motor Guide  5 speed? If so I'd go with the Minn Kota. If not I'd go with the MG.

Hammer, Jimmy seemed to have influenced me on buying Minn Kota and Humminbird products. Thank God that Jimmy had no influence over me when it came to either fashion or hair style. That cut of his certainly would have been a hindrence during my girl chasing days lol.

I've owned both and have no complaints on either brand. My latest purchase of a trolling motor was yesterday and it was a Motorguide Pro.Why did I buy the Motorguide?I got a smokin' deal.70# thrust,24V,45" shaft for $460 at BPS.

Thanks for all the help.

I ended up buying a Motorguide Pro 54lb on sale for $350. The Minn Kota 40 was $300. While I personally like the feel and durability of the Minn Kota better, I just couldn't pass up the extra hp for $50 extra.

BTW - If anyone is interested in a 24 volt motor, BPS has the Minn Kota All Terrain 65 for $399. I just didn't want to be dancing around another battery in a jon boat.

Thanks!
