Super User everythingthatswims Posted August 30, 2016 Super User Posted August 30, 2016 I don't actually know if this is a "big" musky since I'm not familiar with them, but it is definitely the biggest I have landed. Measured the fish on my rod and I will update with a length when I buy a tape. One more will make 10 muskies for me so far! I caught her on a 9" ABT suicide glide, I was walking it like a spook and she crushed it! I caught another on it afterwords and it went completely airborne with the bait in its mouth. EDIT: The fish, measured beside my rod, was 43". 13 Quote
Turkey sandwich Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 Dude, unless you're a midget, that's a great fish. I have no idea what exactly you've stumbled upon, but I've never seen anyone catch river musky like this. 2 Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted August 30, 2016 Super User Posted August 30, 2016 Great Picture ~ Awesome Smile. Genuine Angling Success Induced Joy. Congrats on the new Musky PB I've got a feeling you're not done just yet. A-Jay 2 Quote

Or any musky water, for that matter...I grew up in Wisconsin and know a LOT of guys who spend their whole lives fishing for that fish. Quote
Turkey sandwich Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 The completely ridiculous part... How many have you caught in the past 3 weeks? Quote

Super User Dwight Hottle Posted August 30, 2016 Super User Posted August 30, 2016 Nice looking ski. The holy grail for musky fisherman is 50". That's a bucket fish. Quote

Turtle135 Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 Nice musky! That is a big one in my book and that one looks to be in great shape (clean fins, etc.). Have you caught any of what I refer to as "evil size" (24" - 28")? Because you can get one of those in while they are still fairly green they can be more dangerous with a mouthful of trebles that the big ones. 1 Quote

Super User J Francho Posted August 31, 2016 Super User Posted August 31, 2016 A DD in NY is far rarer than a 50" muskie. There's reports every year from the St.Lawrence of them. 1 Quote

We have only caught one under 30" and yes he was very evil 2 Quote
Super User gim Posted September 1, 2016 Super User Posted September 1, 2016 You've landed 9 in the past 3 weeks?! I haven't caught ONE in 15 years! I stopped keeping track at 300 hours about 5 years ago... 2 Quote

However, when I fish for bass, it is almost always Smallmouth, so I have a better chance of catching 1000 50 inch Musky vs. 1 DD Smallmouth. Nice Fish, by the way! I would be curious to hear the measurement on that one. I would guess that's a nice mid-40's fish, which is a great catch. As far as 50 inchers being rare, finding a honey hole that puts out fish like it has been for you is far rarer than catching a 50 inch musky. That's the true great accomplishment here. 4 Quote

Super User J Francho Posted September 6, 2016 Super User Posted September 6, 2016 Glad you got a ballpark on that fish. I was thinking mi 40s as well. It's gotta be pushing mid teens in weight.
