MikeWright Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Temple, TX. Didn't have much wading Nolan Creek yesterday, saw a bunch of small blues, and a ton of baby bass minnows...couldn't locate the parents though. Today I'm going to head out to Marvin Finn Park and fish the pond there...it's relatively TINY compared to some of the ponds I've seen and heard about on here. I've had luck in the past here, one or two 4 lber and a dozen 1 and under. There is a dock which I plan to flip and submerged grass around the edges I'd like to drop a jig in. There is a small lake (Lake Polk) right next to the.pond but a golf course has occupied that body of water. The Lake is fed by Bird Creek if I'm not mistaken, which runs through the course and into the park, creating this pond. At the mouth of this creek I want to try out these new Game Hawgs I got but if those don't work I'll probably switch back to the baby brush hog (same bait...just my confidence bait...wanted to try another brand though). If all that fails....well I guess I'll be SOL. Well good luck to all of yall and hopefully we can all pull some in today, tight lines. Quote
MikeWright Posted August 28, 2016 Author Posted August 28, 2016 Rain clouds just rolled in but it's ok we need the rain. Didn't get to make it the creek mouth but I did get to flip the dock and grass. Caught my first bass on a jig. It was a GP bitsy flipping jig from SK dressed with a SK srchunk. Man I let it drop right on the edge of the grass, twitched the rod once and watched my line swim away. I pulled the rod back and I don't know if it was the jig or the braid but that connection was super solid. Sucks I gotta pack up but I had fun. I want to upload some pics but they're too big it says...gonna try and figure out how to do it in a little. All in all it was fun, wish I had more time, but I got my first bass on a jig and I can't wait until next time!!! Lol I don't know how those got sideways or upside down Quote
Super User everythingthatswims Posted August 28, 2016 Super User Posted August 28, 2016 That first photo is really cool, looks like it could be an album cover or something Quote
Reel Guy Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Nice color on the bass! My go-to bait on the pond I fish is the crawdad by Arkie Lures. Strike King worms work but the crawdad has been the most consistent. Good luck and keep us posted! Quote

And the SK plastic that I used was a crawdad chunk...basically just the arms of the crawdad. I really liked fishing with the jig and trailer...do yall think my 6'0 med action GX2 Ugly Stik could handle a bigger jig instead of a 1/8 Oz mini jig? I have bigger jigs in better colors but I don't know if my rod could handle them. And if anyone has any tips on fishing the jig I'd appreciate the knowledge...thanks in advance!! Quote
